How Long Between Appointments/Adjustments?

#1 Post by EntrancedBoar91 »

Hello all. I got my braces on last week (ceramic on top center 6 and metal on the rest). They told me to come back in 10 weeks. Is that a normal amount of time between appontments/adjustments? It seems like a long time to me...

That's about normal for Self-ligating braces, Traditional Braces usually involve like twice the number of adjustments (about once every month or month and a half instead of once every 2-3 months).

You will also probably have shorter intervals later in treatment, the interval between my early appoints was usually 10-12 weeks, but my last bunch of intervals between appointments was around 1.5 months (6 weeks apart).

I have Damon Braces (self-ligating).
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

That's odd - they are regular braces with the elastic ligatures... They did just switch over from Damon to regular braces so I wonder if they don't know they're supposed to see me sooner? Out of curiosity, what is it about self-ligating braces that allow them to go longer in between appointments?

Thanks so much for your reply. I appreciate it :D

I think it's because the Elastic Ligatures on Traditional braces can only maintain their strength for so long, whereas Self-ligating braces Ligate without Elastics.

I'm on Damon-3 (self ligating braces) and am seeing the ortho every 3-4 weeks...

I suppose you can request for a shorter waiting period. :)
