Extraction or no extraction?

#1 Post by Skortho »

I've been braced for almost two months. My case is mild crowding. Some of my teeth were protruding forward more than the other before i got braced. As of now my teeth are starting to get alignes together(except for lower i think lower is slower because it's more crowded compared to upper). But as it start to get aligned i notice that it get more jutting out a bit.

My initial ortho plan is to extract 4 teeth. Although at first i dont really wanna go thru with it and rather have the self ligating braces expand my arch a bit. But from what i read is they dont expand the arch but push the teeth outward of the gum, giving the illusion of jaw expansion?

So in my case as you can see here(sorry for bad photo and ignore the ugly facial structure)

I can understand not wanting extractions, but it seems like you would really benefit from it as you seem to have a little protrusion going on; but idk, maybe expansion or IPR could work also.
Lots of crimes here

1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars

2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29

3. Open bite

4. Upper midline left of center

5. Lower midline right of center

6. Upper and lower teeth not straight

Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.

Braces removed since 11/06/17

I asked about teeth shaving but my ortho don't recommend it because my teeth are already quite small especially lower front teeth. Expansion arent gonna happen i think at the age of 21, all it might do probably is just push towards outside of the gum without expanding the arch

Expansion does seem to work for some adults, idk if it's "true" expansion, but if it works it works.

But maybe extractions would be your best bet.

I'm so glad I didn't need extractions because too many people claim really bad things happened after extractions.

I would seriously consider the extractions; there's a lot of fear mongering here regarding the subject, but I'm of the opinion that extractions are sometimes -- even oftentimes -- necessary.

Here more picture, at about 8.5 weeks. It seems there's a bit of overjet from the straightening of slight crowded teeth

I decided to wait for a few months before deciding if i need extraction.

But today i went to the ortho and instead of using thicker wire, he put another wire of the same thickness. Is this normal? Doubling the archwires? Two on top and two on bottom
