Has anyone ever asked to change their bracket type?

I have ceramic upper and lowers. So far, the ceramic braces at the top have been popping off and right now I have 2 brackets loose. My orthodontist doesn't think its a serious issue as I just had my braces fitted on Feb.1 so I will be waiting to get them re-bonded at my next appointment in March. However, they are bulky and I have read that metal braces stay on longer. I should have done more research since now I am reading that having ceramic lowers might chip my teeth but also the feel of these things under my lip make me feel like Mr. Ed and my teeth keep getting caught. LOL I am going to inquire about this at my next appointment since they're the same price at my ortho, but, I was wanting to know if any of you all have changed bracket types?

I only had one ceramic bracket (uppers only) break to the point they had to replace it. I would definitely be concerned about chipping teeth on the lower brackets. I've had some worn spots on my front uppers from hitting my stainless lowers; so it's still possible to do damage with stainless.

If I had to do it all again; I'd just go stainless top and bottom.

Hi, I had ceramic Damon brackets and had the same problems with the brackets coming off. I found that that my top lip would always get caught and wouldn't cover the bracket. In the end I had the brackets removed and replaced with the Damon metal brackets. Since then I've had no problems and they also feel more comfortable. I wish I had gone with metal from day one.

I had ceramic brackets put on my top teeth and regular metal on the bottom. The ceramic were so large and uncomfortable (sharp) that I could not stand them. I felt really uncomfortable with my orthodontist because these brackets just looked huge compared to other people, but he kept saying they were fine and I would get used to them. There were other issues with him not explaining things and I felt his office was lacking experience. After a month, I went to anther recommended orthodontist and he took those huge brackets off and put on small metal ones and I started over. They are SO much better. Very important to have that talk up front and see the brackets before they put them on. I had no idea there were differences in bracket sizes and shapes and sharpness! Metal brackets are the smallest and most flush to the tooth and therefore most comfortable. I am so glad that I switched orthodontists and brackets.
