When do you get x-rays?

#1 Post by maddiesmom »

I may be getting a little ahead of myself but with 9 months of having braces under my belt (with a sentence time of around 18 months) I am getting a little overexcited that I may be at the halfway point and possibly even out of braces sooner than expected. I have no reason to think that, really, other than the fact that I just want my mouth back!

So, I've posted about what signs to look for to indicate you're nearing the end of treatment and a few responded that the ortho will see, via xrays, if the roots of the teeth are in their proper position to let them know if treatment is coming to an end.

My question is: when does the ortho do an x-ray? I had x-rays before I began treatment 9 months ago but nothing since. When should he be doing an x-ray?

I had a panoramic x-ray done at my last appointment, which was just shy of the one-year point of wearing braces. (I still have a long way to go, especially since I am having complications due to my messed up crown problems).

My 1-year "being braced" anniversary is Dec. 7th. At my last appt. my ortho told the asst. to schedule me for an x-ray at my Nov. 22nd appt., so that is about 11.5 months into things. My ortho did mention that my teeth moved much faster than he expected :D

Me too, I got my x-rays done at 1 year. Half way through my estimated treatment time.

Just thought I'd let you know that I had my x-rays taken after almost 1.5 years! But I do have a 3-4 year sentence and nothing much has really happened so far.... :(
Good luck!

I had an x-ray taken about 6 months in. My orthodontist wanted to check how things were going, and then at the next appointment, they removed 3 or 4 brackets, and replaced them on the same teeth, but in different positions so they would pull the teeth in different ways then they had been.

I knew in advance why they were taking that x-ray, so I had no expectation of getting my braces off.
