Lip incompetence, elastics and some questions

#1 Post by Seasaltmind »

Previously my lip incompetence had improved with combo extractions and elastics.
Long story short: I didn't wear my retainer and my teeth went their ways.

Currently in my second round for 8 months with a new orthodontist.
I see that my lip incompetence has worsened by a lot.
Though I am getting elastics next month and hoping for the best.
I will bring my concerns up next time I'm in the chair.

Has your lip incompetence improved with elastics?
Do braces commonly make lip incompetence worse?
Has your recessed profile improved with elastics?

Much thanks.

Personnally, I started seeing improvements in both my profile and my lips after wearing my elastics for 2 months.

I have slight lip incompetence. I think it's mostly because of the braces , but I can't remember. It's improved slightly because I had an overjet and was given class 2 elastics to pull my top arch back.

I'm interested to see if people had lip incompetence that went away when braces were removed. I wish I remembered if I had to strain to close my lips before braces.
