I survived a bit longer, the ortho is giving me another couple of months pulling time. PHEW. He seems to think it's moved a little tiny bit. I'm not sure I agree from looking at the pictures, BUT I'm certainly not going to argue with trying for a bit longer!

Oh no Whimsical, you too?

I am so frustrated. I used to feel my teeth shifting but right now this canine doesn't do anything. We are stuck on the very last link!

My Ortho suggested making an incision on the gum and bonding a bracket but honestly it sounds painful, although could it be worse than what I already went through?

I see her on the 22nd of May so hopefully my tooth will either erupt or we go that route. I want my tooth and can't even imagine having it extracted at this point.

Glad you haven't gotten yours extracted either, I do believe more time is what is needed.

Good Luck!

I've seen a lot of other posts on this forum saying that powerchains worked for them in a matter of days, and my canine finally fully came down but now there's a gap between it and my front teeth so I was wondering how long it took you guys to finish closing large gaps (~5mm) around the lowered canine.

Just had surgery (exposure and bonding) done last week on the 3rd of April and have had extreme pain in the last few days. Not only can Ino longer talk properly but it feels like it has done some damage to the roots or some other teeth but I'm not quite sure what the problem is at this point but all I know is the pain stops me dead in my tracks and Almohad brings tears to my eyes. I also can no longer talk properly. Since my tongue doesn't touch to roof of my mouth anymore, I can't say words with the letter 's'. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues? Will I be able to talk properly again?

Erin,

Your surgery was 15 days ago?

I healed in 5 days and was able to speak and eat soft food a few hours after the surgery. Not sure if you should be in this kind of extreme pain or if I was just lucky.

I suggest you not wait long and schedule a check up with the surgeon ASAP.

Feel better soon! :rose:

Thanks! I went for a checkup today and apparently they think it is all normal. Their words were that they had to cut through a fair bit of bone and that the tooth was quite deep into the roof of my mouth but they also did not cover it with numbing putty because the hospital was out of it (if that even makes much difference to the pain). I got prescribed endone for now but I can't keep taking endone for the time it will take for the problem resolve itself. It is just unusual because I can not find anything at all about anyone else having these issues or being in this much pain post operation.

Erin, good to know it's nothing serious. Hopefully you will feel better soon!

The explanation does make sense though, my tooth was lodged behind bones too and they dug for it. I didn't experience a lot of pain but the gains of them drilling were amazing coz it's fully out now way before the other one which is still trodding on in my gums. Sigh.

This tooth annoys me so freaking much! :-+

Well, it's nearly time for my next appointment and at this stage I'm trying to bring myself around to TylerWithBraces and his ortho's way of thinking, because this toothy beast hasn't moved at all this month.

I suppose it's a fair way of looking at it, the tooth hasn't been here all this time and I've survived, so as long as they can find a way of closing the gap that is functional and doesn't look completely bizarre - and I still don't know how on earth that is achievable?! - then fair enough, I suppose. Ugh tho. So stressful! I really hope you have better luck UltraViolet!

I feel for you whimsical. I'm not as deep into the process (braces 9 months and extract/expose with wilkidontics (to help it move faster) was 2 months ago. However, I feel like I am also in the despair club because my chain isn't coming up. Like not at all. Haven't had to cut one link off and there was already space made for it to come up, so it's not overcrowding slowing it down to add to the drama my impacted canine is very very far below the gum line, so a long way to go if it ever does start moving. I hate these teeth!

Looked at side by side X-rays today of where canine was when we started and where it is now. Slight movement upwards and over. I Don't have X-rays of just before the procedure, so it's unclear if the tooth moved into the space that the ortho opened up on its own since I got braces in September, or if it has come up in the two months since the procedure. I'm going to hope it's the latter and that it starts improving. She says we will give it SIX more months before calling it quits completely. I will not be willing to give it that long if no movement is observed by three months from now

Hi, I had my impacted canine exposure surgery on April 21st 2017 ánd them my braces fitted 4th may, they only put a button on the exposed canine but not a chain.
From what I've read people get the braces first then surgery and a chain added then, seems mine ha's been done the other way round! Has anyone has this done? I want my chain on now as my teeth are straight it's just the one impacted tooth and I feel at the moment the braces are pointless!
