Getting braces off.. HELP!!

#1 Post by RobertJohnson »

Hi guys,

So on Friday my orthodontist set the date to get my braces off this week on Thursday. I'm really pleased with 95% of my mouth but the problem is with 3 of my teeth on the lower right hand side. My lower canine is noticeably bigger than the left one, and the first premolar and second premolar next to it are really small compared to the left ones! My lower teeth are also a bit off center as well. Not by much but up close you can definitely notice.

My question is.. should I really be getting them off? I live in England at the moment but I'm moving abroad in August so I need to have them off by then. But it is another 3 months away so surely progress could be made?

I'd recommend having a heart-to-heart with the orthodontist. I've seen pictures from other posters with this dilemma, but when they post photos many of us think their teeth look terrific, opening up the possibility that we are looking at our own teeth and seeing minor variations that most others would never notice. However it is your opinion that is important, of course, so see what might be possible. Best of luck and congrats (sort of) for getting your braces off at some point in the near future!

Yeah I'm definitely going to have a chat with him when I'm in on Thursday. Before I knew it I was downstairs in the reception getting an appointment so didn't really have a chance to talk to him about it! If I can understand his reasoning then it should put my worries to rest I'd imagine.

Thank you for the response!

I think that if the problem is only the size of the teeth maybe you can wait and think about veneers in the future!
But if you notice that it does give you a functional problem you should talk with your doctor, maybe he can came up with a better idea.
