Is it just me???????

#1 Post by Juliebrynn1 »

So I recently went to the orthodontist. A space was created for my lower crowded tooth. They took that tooth that was way in the back, and they slid it over to the space that was created for it. Well, in addition to there not being enough room for it (its still crowded. They should have allowed more time for more space to be created), it literally slid right over!!!!!! The tooth was sooo loose, that it just slid right over when they manually pushed it in its place. Is that normal????????? I thought they would use different wires and such to slowly scoot it over within a short amount of time. But, it seriously moved right then and there, when they manually pushed it in its newly created space. Is this normal??? is it supposed to be that loose where it is able to just move right over??????????
They didn't seemed concerned, but they never do, so that's not a surprise at all for me. I mean, if it were that easy to move teeth, then orthodontists would put braces on everyone, and within weeks they would have u go into their office and manually move everything where it needs to go. It's just really freaking me out!!!!!

I would probably be freaking out. I've never heard of them being able to push a tooth over but then again, I'm in accounting, not orthodontics. I hope someone can give you a better answer.

Thank you erinn for your reply. It is all so strange here with these braces. Not only is the tooth sliding thing going on, but, since he tried to fix one tooth on the bottom that was crowded, that created 4 teeth on the bottom with black triangles. The top was supposed to fix one black triangle, but has created 4 other ones. This is truly a domino effect that I wish I was told about. So tomorrow, I have an appointment with a cosmetic dentist, just to get an idea of all my options.
Thanks again for your reply.

I saw this once while watching a Time lapse video, the bottoms were crowded and all of a sudden the next slide was in line with the rest. Did they physically force it into place? Did it hurt? Either way, the bone will settle around the tooth and it will tighten up soon.

Wow, that's scary. I feel like that would be able to do with one of my teeth right now, it's so loose I feel like it moves when I breathe.

Flybynight, Thank you for your reply. Yes, they did physically push it. It didn't hurt, it just felt like ur teeth felt when u were younger and they were loose and u tried to move them. I am worried about the bone regrowth around it and if they shortened the root. Maybe too much, too soon?? 12

Heartofdarkness, Plz let me know if they do anything like what they did with my tooth since yours feels so loose. I just don't think that's normal.

I'm a dental hygienist so I have experience in dental, but not so much on the ortho side. I can just say that during braces, we kind of work the periodontal ligaments of teeth for movement and it has a certain amount of movement with braces over time. I'm sure your orthodontist knows whats the appropriate amount of movement it can have. I don't think most orthodontists does that, but for me I didn't have that kind of work needed so I'm not sure. I'm sure your ortho must have been a confident one to be able to do such thing. Have faith in his work and until complications show, I'm sure your treatment is going well! Good luck!

There's no where for it to go since it's kind of in the right place already, sorry! If I feel comfortable enough I could ask about it though, I'm going in tomorrow. :)
