The Orthodontist said he thinks the reason 1 bracket keeps popping off is because my Pontic can move around a lot when I'm eating and thus it's putting extra pressure on the bracket on the other front tooth.
So I'm gonna at least try to do what they said and eat with my molars instead of my teeth at the front.
Any tips? I'm trying to keep it from popping off so I can be done in roughly 3 months (if all goes well).

Re: Advice for eating with molars?
Do you mean biting into foods with your front teeth is causing the problem? I don't eat with my front teeth aside from biting into things. It I don't even do that while I have my braces on. I hate the feeling of stuff stuck in the front brackets, and frankly, my front teeth, top and bottom, are just too sensitive in braces to bite into much of anything. So I cut up my food. All of it. I use a fork for practically everything then I can get my bites back to my molars right away and do all the chewing business back there.
Everything. I cut up donuts, I slice toast into thin sticks so I can take a bite with the side of my teeth instead of the front, I cut up pizza, sandwiches, literally everything. I'm hoping the soreness goes away after my braces come off and everything gets firmly in place again because I'd like to eat normally again. But I can live with it for now. It's not forever.

They said chewing with my front teeth is the problem, but I already try my best to chew with my molars on the right side as that side is complete (except for a missing Premolar I don't even notice)Beckett wrote:Do you mean biting into foods with your front teeth is causing the problem? Re: Advice for eating with molars?
I wonder if your ortho could affix a band to the troublesome front tooth instead of relying on just that bracket. (It might have to be fabricated or special-ordered, since it wouldn't be surprising for a non-molar band to not be part of your ortho's regular stock.) I know that before modern cements, all teeth got bands. (My wife, who had braces in the late 70's, said her ortho had a spring-loaded hammer-gun thing to pound those suckers on... and you thought spacers were bad!)

Well I hope I won't need any alternative methods to be used.sirwired wrote:I wonder if your ortho could affix a band to the troublesome front tooth instead of relying on just that bracket. I'm being more careful and so far so good, I think if I can be careful until my next adjustment it should stay on the rest of the time; I think it will help to be moved up to a stronger wires as then the Pontic will barely move and there should be no excess pressure on the tooth with the bracket that keeps popping off.

I thought I was crazy- I cut up almost everything. My hubby couldn't understand it at all. A couple of weeks ago I was able to bite into softer stuff but I went for an adjustment yesterday and they power chained me so I'm back to a super soft or liquid diet right now.
