Hello, I'm from Portugal, my english is far from perfect, i hope you can understand me .
2 months ago i began orthodontic treatment ,I'm wearing self-ligating braces but my orthodontist put rubber bands on it, i don't understand ,the brackets themselves hold the arch-wire, but she also uses rubber bands in every bracket , i thought self ligated braces didn't use elastics to hold the arch-wire.
Thank you

Re: self-ligating braces
It seems odd to have them on every bracket, unless what you have are power chains, which look like rubber bands chained together and are used to close spaces regardless of if you have Self Ligating braces, or traditional braces.
Lots of crimes here
1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars
2. Missing teeth #s 9, 14, and, 29
3. Open bite
4. Upper midline left of center
5. Lower midline right of center
6. Upper and lower teeth not straight
Sentence - 24 months, turned to 27 month.
Braces removed since 11/06/17

Re: self-ligating braces
no, they are not power chains, they are elastic bands used in conventional braces, the brackets use a metal clip or door to hold the arch wire, but around that clip she also applied elastic rings to secure the wire, i really don't understand the point , in the first month she only used the metal clip to secure the wire, but in the second month, she started to use elastic rings that are used only in conventional braces.
Re: self-ligating braces
what type of self ligating braces do you have?
Re: self-ligating braces
sorry, i don't know how to answer that question , they just told me that they are self ligating, and i confirmed that by watching pictures online , they are indeed self ligated , the brackets have a closing mechanism that doesn't require elastics , and in the first month they only used that mechanism, in the second visit they started to use elastic bands when they changed the arch wire, a thicker one .
Re: self-ligating braces
My ortho puts elastics on for me because I asked for them - I have Damon brackets. I figured that since I waited 18 years to FINALLY get braces, I might as well have fun with them! I can't understand why they'd put elastics on them unless you had asked - doesn't make any sense.. Maybe they assumed you'd want them for aesthetic purposes? Did they ask what colour you wanted?

Re: self-ligating braces
I didn't ask for elastics, they just ask me to choose the colour . I think i just going to ask them in my next apointment , but they don't like being questioned , they just tell me to thrust them...
