Molar bands

#1 Post by NikNax »

I've been in braces since May and have had brackets come unattached a few times. I have crowns and those areas are where the brackets are coming unattached. My orthodontist said if they came off again, she was going to install molar bands. Anyone ever had molar bands? If so, what was your experience?

I just had molar bands installed last week! In my experience It hurts when it was installed and you might feel pressure for a few hours after but then the pressure subsides. I have silver fillings on my back molars so I had to have the molar bands since a bracket would have trouble sticking. The only thing I would say was really painful were the spacers that preceded the installation of the molar bands!

Thanks Exia Unicorn. I was told I may have to get spacers before the bands but it was dependent on whether or not they could easily place the bands. If difficult, they will place spacers then the bands. I'm anticipating the spacer pain. I

I currently have molar bands. The worst part for me were the spacers, they really hurt the first time around and I ended up with an infection and swollen lymph nodes. This is my second time around with spacers at my bottom left so that I can get my 4th and final molar band. Personally, after the molar band went on, I had no pain or trouble at all. I wish you luck!

I've had braces for a few months now but I got spacers last week and I have an appointment this week to get a molar band around a tooth that has a particularly large filling in it.

My appointment is this week and I found out I may have to get spacers before the bands go on, depending on how tight my teeth are. I'm anxious as I want the bands to prohibit the brackets from constantly coming off and I'm nervous because of possibly having spacers done as I've heard how uncomfortable and sometimes painful they are.

I will update after my appointment.

Thanks again everyone for your input, much appreciated.

I have that from day 1. Spacer was the worst, but it only took a week or less before a molar band could be placed.

I think molar bands feel pretty much like other brackets except they are bigger and have metal at the "back" where your tongue has to get used to. But it won't take long.

Well I'm back from the orthodontist with spacers which have to stay in place for two weeks. My teeth were too tight/close for the bands. I was advised if they came off before two weeks, to call the office. My ortho said my mouth would be sore but so far so good.
