Drinks to get you through

#1 Post by privatepilot »

Just wondering...I use a lovely drink called an Appletini when the tooth pain gets bad. It's 1/2 vodka and 1/2 Sour Pucker, shaken with ice then strained. Does anyone else have a favorite pain ocean? And what's the recipe. This is an adult board so it's OK!!

My favorite right now is a Jolly Rancher: 1 shot apple pucker, 1 shot peach schnapps, then fill it up with cranberry juice. Not good if you have clear ligs, but I don't, so I'm good to go.

I don't drink alcohol, but I had a terrible cold the first day of getting braces, and later that night I couldn't tell if it was the wire or the cold that was making my head split.

Anyway I have this special drink I make for a cold, it really soothes the throat and tastes nice and sharp and sweet even when your tastebuds are dulled.

What amazed me was that this time it seemed to have a really analgesic (painkilling) effect on the teethache, not just the headache/coldache symptoms:

- few slices fresh ginger root
- one tiny Indian lime (like a key lime? or half a regular lime)
- plenty of honey to taste

Squeeze the lime into a cup, then also throw in the segements you just squeezed, chuck in the ginger, add honey and boiling water.

It doesn't sound so special, many people drink lemon and honey, but believe me with lime it is absolutely transformed - a totally, utterly different drink. So much tastier and more effective.

Amarula is my "comfort" adult beverage.... It's South African. Sort of a Bailey's on steriods. Very nice stuff.

Gin in the form of a really large martini with a couple of olives. Yes, I even eat the olives when my teeth hurt. Just bite right into them! YUM! You have to get at least half way through the drink first though.

I'm lame - just a beer drinker.

Now that my braces have caused my teeth to ache when I drink cold, my favorite soothing drink is warm mulled cider. Oh how I love autumn in New York...

A shot of cognac in my tea works wonders on achy teeth.
