Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
Just wondering how many people have had four premolars extracted (either first or second premolars) AND all four wisdom teeth extracted before getting braces?
I just had all four wisdom teeth extracted (no sedation, just the mouth shots) and am going to need four second premolars extracted after my deep cleaning this Sunday.
Posted this in the our bracket stories, but then thought I should do it here instead.
THanks in advance

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted in my early 20s because they were all impacted.
Then in my early 40s when I got braces it was necessary to extract 4 pre-molars.

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
Not all at once, but I had my wisdom teeth extracted (all 4) about 7-8 years ago and four bicuspids (two top, two bottom) extracted on 8/5 of this year. Which was two weeks before getting braced.
In full braces for 2 years, 3 weeks, 1 day.

How do you both feel about having 8 less teeth for a total of 24? does it look or feel weird? Any changes for the worse that you didn't expect?

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
3 wisdom's extracted in my 20's (4th one never developed). Two upper wisdom's had erupted but at a very wrong angle and the lower was impacted. Had 4 bicuspids out 4-ish years ago for orthodontic treatment. Upper firsts, lower seconds.
It was pretty clear that I needed all these teeth removed so I had no remorse in losing them. I had severe crowding plus I have a very small mouth--an extremely small upper palate. My upper palate width is 10mm smaller then average. So I'm no worse the wear (and much better looking) for having them removed. If you look in my mouth my teeth are now perfectly lined up and when I smile you would never know that I had 7 teeth removed.
Many people complain of/worry about facial changes from tooth removal. I had some subtle profile changes but I don't mind it. From the front I look no different except now have straight teeth.

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
I had my wisdom teeth extracted in my 20's then 4 premolars the same week as bracing. The wisdom teeth needed to go as they were extracted. With severe crowding I need to have the premolars extracted or have surgery. I chose extraction. I have had facial change...definate narrowing, which I really don't like; however, this was the only way to avoid surgery. I really wasn't aware of how much my face would change and I'm glad I didn't know because I probably wouldn't have gone through with the bracing. I will deal with the narrowing face in order to have a healthy bite and straight teeth.

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
I had my 4 wisdom teeth extracted in 2009: 3 of which were impacted. Then this year getting braces I had to get 4 premolars out. I was kindof surprised at first given i'd already lost the wisdom, but how it was explained to me is that my upper jaw is underdeveloped and if I were a child they could widen it and keep the teeth but that's not possible now. So my teeth mirror and due to excessive over crowding the bottoms had to be done too.
I asked why they couldn't use the wisdom teeth space and I was told that as my wisdom teeth were impacted and won't removed until I was 27 there were gum pockets from the extractions that they couldn't move other teeth into. I grew up in England and was never told I needed braces nor wisdom teeth removed until I saw an American dentist at 26... My husband's wisdom teeth were rolled out in high school here in the US and right before braces; so part of the 8 teeth removal may be based on luck regarding your dentist and how long they waited to remove the wisdom teeth.

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
Thanks Secretsmile and everyone else. I also was wondering why the ortho couldn't use the space from the wisdom teeth that I had removed. I have crowding in the front bottom teeth with my canines moving lower into the jaw that has happened over the years. I have been a dental chicken all of my life and have sometimes gone years before seeing a dentist. my parents couldn't afford braces in my teens. Now that I'm in my 30's, things certainly aren't easier financially, but I've been told by my dentist that if I don't get braces now, I'll lose my teeth later in life. Once he said that, I figured I'd have no choice. I had waited until last month to get all 4 wisdom removed and only did so after hearing that the impacted one was pushing into the molar next to it and was causing bone loss. I am scheduled for a deep cleaning soon and once that gets done and I get cleared, i'll then get braced. The ortho wants the braces to go on first before pulling the premolars.
Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
I'm curious about how your treatment has turned out?
Are you happy with your treatment and end results?
I've had 3 extractions, 2 upper and 1 lower(which had to go either way) and like TumbleDryLow I have a really small pallet which was crowded. I've been advised that closer to the end of my treatment I'll need my wisdom teeth removed, all 4 of them are impacted and although they haven't bugged me yet my ortho said they may cause my teeth to go skew again when I get my braces off.
So yeah a bit of concern if it'll turn me into skeletor. I've already got a really tiny face + jaw, and a naturally narrowish face because genetics and I'm hoping my profile stays the same after all 7 extractions.

4. Edge to edge bite
They're just kind of wonky

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
In my case, I’m really happy how things turned out with the tooth removal that I needed. I can’t believe how I had all those teeth in my mouth and believed I didn’t need all those extractions. I look at old
Pics and realize how crooked they were and now that they have been straight and brace free for over two years I am thrilled with how they look. I have a thin narrow face and small pallet too.

Thank you for your response. Its wonderful to hear that you're happy with your results and your smile.anngie27 wrote:In my case, I’m really happy how things turned out with the tooth removal that I needed. Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
I had 4 wisdom teeth and 4 premolars extracted at the same time as well, and am honestly a little worried about the face collapse that everyone seems to be talking about.
I'm not that worried about removing the wisdom teeth as they were impacted and were literally on the slope of my mandible so I can't see how they had any role in even supporting my face to begin with. Also, one of them have caused a root cavity in my second molar, (my first ever cavity in my life!) so the decison to extract was much easier.
I'm slightly worried about the premolar extractions, but then, I do have a large overjet and protrusive profile (my lips actually stick out like donald duck ) and my teeth looked like they were flying out of my mouth from my xrays, and I had moderate crowding too so I can kinda see why I had to get extractions.
I haven't noticed any changes to my face yet but maybe that's also because my ortho hasn't started retraction yet. I'm kinda worried about reduced tongue space and collapsed face, but at the same time, I'm also looking forward to a less protrusive profile after treatment. So many conflicting emotions.

Me!
I had both bottom impacted wisdom teeth removed on separate occasions. I later extracted 4 premolars and 2 top wisdom at a go around a week before I have my braces on.

I suffered from bimax protrusion and lip incompetence with a small chin and a convex profile, and my 4 first premolars had been extracted.assertives wrote:I had 4 wisdom teeth and 4 premolars extracted at the same time as well, and am honestly a little worried about the face collapse that everyone seems to be talking about.

I was exactly like you when I received my extractions, very afraid to end up with any facial damages.
I was very happy when the retraction started because I saw my mouth to close properly and my chin becoming more developped.
After a treatment of 32 months of braces and 18 months in elastics, I am debraced now and even if I end up with a smaller arch all the facial transformations are positive.

Re: Who has had four premolars extracted AND all four wisdom
Me. I had these extractions done as a child (premolars) prior to getting braces at age 13 (ish), and young adult (wisdom teeth) after braces were out. I have a small pallet, and I think back in those days, palatial expansion and jaw surgery was not done nearly as frequently as today (I am 56 now, so that tells you how long ago I'm talking about!)
In answer to your question, I have always been pleased with my results. My face didn't collapse; in fact, I was quite pretty in my younger days. The only reason I am in braces again now so much later in life is that I fractured my jaw earlier this year in a bicycle accident and messed up my bite.
Your mileage may vary, obviously, but that's my story -- and I'm sticking to it!
