Tooth paste ?

#1 Post by krystal7krystal7 »

Hi !

Can I get some tooth paste recommendations ?

Because.. after getting braces, i suddenly got a lot of acnes on my chin & around my mouth only. I have both cyst & narcissus (?) acne.
Now, there are lotsss of scars on my chin. And i'm only getting more and more.
So I'm suspecting the toothpaste.
After getting braces, when I brush my teeth, I look in the mirror to make sure I'm not missing any spots that I have my mouth open and the toothpaste drips down my chin all the time.

Is there someone who experienced the same ? What tooth paste do you use ?

Getting braces would not suddenly make you have a reaction to your regular toothpaste. Is this a new toothpaste that you have only started using after getting braced?

Personally, for toothpaste, I alternate between colgate enamel health, prevident and 3M clinpro 5000.

1. Yes new tooth pastes.
2. Before braces, I do not open my mouth or look in the mirror while brushing & no tooth paste drips down the chin at all, i have very sensitive skin & i was very careful. The messy chin happened only after braces. I thought it was just one of the breakouts but it just doesn't stop.

I totally get this -- when I brush my teeth in braces I also get toothpaste all over around my mouth and chin as I watch to make sure I am hitting every spot! Fortunately, I am not sensitive to my toothpastes. I am using one of the many Sensodyne versions and alternating with Colgate (just the regular "cavity prevention" version). I have no idea if there is a toothpaste that would be less irritating for you. Perhaps one of the natural types like Tom's? You can get that at Walgreens as well as health-food stores like Whole Foods, etc.

Good luck!

Thank you so much.
Hope I can find some natural toothpastes.
For now, I've got 4 trouble spots right on top of the lip line #_#

Just brush the way you normally would. Feel your way around instead of opening your mouth to see what you are doing. The only thing the ortho told me was to not use a "whitening" toothpaste. I thought for sure when the brackets came off (last week) there would be marks where the brackets were but everything looks fine.

I got some cavities by brushing i normal did. That's why.
And I've got rubber bands (if that's how they are called) too so I can't get in between them unless I look into mirror.
Even with mouth closed, it's hard to not get toothpaste around my lip.
I am getting so many bumps on my lip line (where people use lip liner).

And I'm not worried about the marks, it's about my (sensitive) skin reacting to toothpastes, so..

thanks anyways.

Maybe you can try brushing like you normally would first and after that, take an interdental brush with some toothpaste for some "precision brushing" around brackets and under the wire. That way you won't miss spots and will not create as much of a mess.

Also, if you are not allergic or sensitive to tea tree oil, perhaps you can try brushing with a drop of it together with your toothpaste once a week or every other week. I do that to help combat the bacterial that causes cavities.
