Permanent retainer came unglued

#1 Post by megz0501 »

So I had my braces off at the end of August. My Orthodontist put a permanent retainer on the back of my top 4 teeth. A couple days ago some of it came unglued. So I have an appointment in a couple days. She said $100 to get it repaired. I mentioned to the receptionist about getting it removed. She said I’d have to discuss with the dr. About that. Is it okay to ask if they can just remove it?? I wear clear retainers every night. Anyone have experience with this??

I would definitely not get it removed after only six months, I've been told that ideally it should stay there as long as possible because the teeth can start to move as soon as it's gone. Your clear retainers probably help but then you would have to wear them every night for a very long time. Do you know why it came unglued this soon?

UPDATE! I asked them to remove it. They did with no problem. Didn’t even try to convince me to keep it! For the first time in 2 years, I don’t have metal in my mouth!!
