Wisdom teeth coming in while having braces??

#1 Post by Dude11315 »

Hi! I’m new to this forum but I’m not new to braces

I just graduated high school earlier this summer and I’ve had braces on for about almost 2 years now, been about 20 or 21 months in with no complications other than I had to get cavities filled in a month prior to getting them on. I didn’t need any of that fancy extra stuff that ortho’s use before the real moving happens, in fact my teeth are really healthy and I take good care of them.
November 2016 is when I got my braces, I was in 11th grade

My teeth really weren’t that bad to begin with and I would show a picture but I don’t think that I am authorized to do so, so I won’t. Estimated time was around 28 months and we’re almost there!!

But!! My wisdom teeth are coming in, they don’t hurt or anything but I’ve felt them for about 4 months now and I just went to my dentist and she said there is literally no room for all 4 of them to grow, plus they’re at an odd angle. So obviously I’ll have to get them extracted, not scared or anything but is it possible they can do it while I have my braces on? Or will they have to take my braces off so they can extract the wisdom teeth. I also wonder if it will extend the time that I have my braces on since I’ll be on a tight schedule for college and about an hour and a half away with no classes on Thursday for the first semester, that’s the day I’ll go to the ortho. I am completely lost in this lol sorry, I just don’t know why my orthodontist has never said anything about them

By the way! I just turned 18 a couple of days ago.
My older sister got her’s taken out at 19 or 20
My dad got his taken out idk how old he was though, it was before he had me at least lol

Can anyone give me some clarification, thanks!

Sorry! I forgot to include this.

So I’m doing an evaluation sometime in August before I go away, and if I do happen to get them taken out, it would be around Christmas break! My teeth will be okay right? I mean they don’t hurt now but what if I start feeling pain while I’m away 😂😂 I don’t know

I'm not a professional, but I think it's possible to get your wisdom teeth out when in braces. I've seen a couple of videos of people documenting such experiences on youtube so I guess it's not uncommon. Have you consulted the oral surgeon or talked to your ortho about this yet though? They should be able to advise you better on this.
