rotated and raised wisdom tooth

#1 Post by wendydong »

i am in my late 30s, and have 3 of the 4 wisdom teeth intact. I got braces about 5 months ago, but recently, my wisdom tooth on the bottom right looks like rotated and raised. Now when I chew on that side, my two wisdom hit and my other teeth can't hit each other. That wisdom tooth also is rotated and in constant tiny pain.

I went to my ortho office today for an "emergency" appt, and was told that he could possibly put a bracket there during my next regular long appt.

Does anyone have brackets on their wisdom teeth? does it work on wisdom teeth?
should I ask my ortho if I should get them extracted? anyone did teeth extraction during braces?

my ortho didn't ask me to have my wisdom teeth extracted before the braces, even though the main reason i got the braces was some crowding issue. is this norma?

Hi Wendy, I had brackets on my two upper wisdom teeth for the duration of my treatment. The wisdom teeth were tilted inward and one needed to be intruded and the other extruded in order to level out my bite. My ortho mentioned her having to bracket wisdom teeth is infrequent, but not unusual in the case of posterior bite problems. Hang in there, I'm sure they'll be able to sort it out. -P
Lower braces on March 11, 2015, upper braces added July 14, 2015.

Brackets does work on wisdom teeth as well. You can definitely ask your ortho about removing them. I personally had to get mine removed before starting braces because 2 of the lower ones were impacted.

I've seen youtube videos of people documenting their braces journey where they had their premolars extracted when they are already in braces, so I'm sure that's not uncommon.
