Hi, I'm new here so my apologies if this has been asked a million times.
I had just previously read about someone who has partial braces with a similar case to mine, but didn't answer some questions I had.
I have always been self conscious about my teeth and this year finally managed to get my braces process going by scheduling a consultation/fitting for braces. I've been seeing my orthodontist prior to the fitting and was always told "come back in 6 months to see if there's progress" because my jaw was lopsided, and didn't match up very well. (I don't really know what is wrong with my jaw, but I know theres's problems lol).
I finally spoke up and told him I want braces sometime soon and I don't want to wait any longer. He probably got annoyed with me and scheduled a consultation. I sat down with the ortho and was told that I would need jaw surgery to ever get a full set of braces and fix my bite. He gave me another option in case I did not want to go through getting jaw surgery, which I am not doing, and to just get top braces. I decided to go ahead and get the upper braces put on.
My top braces were put on July 31st 2018 and I got the self-ligating ones, but the ortho never explained his plan for my teeth. I wanted to ask on here maybe if someone else had the same experience and could answer some of my questions.
I noticed I have rubber band hooks on my teeth, is it possible to have rubber bands even though I don't have bottom hooks for it to attach to, or is that just standard with all braces?
Will my front teeth ever be straight/close to straight as those with a full set? (The article I read about the person with braces provided pictures, however since I am new I could not view those.)
Thank you! :)

Re: Questions about Partial (Upper Only) Braces?
Hi there!
I think it depends how your bottom teeth are and how your bite settles. Most brackets come with hook attached to them already but If you otho does plan to dit your bite, they might place lower braces on. I know many people have just got upper braces because upper teeth are most visible although I'd recommend getting lower too to ensure your teeth will last a long time.
Most people don't need surgery if unless they have crowding.
You can always get a second opinion about upper braces from another orthodontist.
Good luck 😄
