Extraction gap closure time

#1 Post by Level75 »

Hi. What are people's experience of the time taken for extraction gaps to close? I've had 2 top teeth out, 5th in (sorry don't know technical terms) and was just wondering. It's been 3 months and I reckon it's a third closed. Just moved off round wires onto square. Thanks

They won't close faster than about 1mm per month, and sometimes not even that fast. Best of luck to you!

Mine took almost 2 years to close. My left canine took a long time to move toward the molar, once it did, it didn't take too long close the rest of the gaps.

I had 4 teeth removed. The gaps closed pretty quickly. My ortho had me wear rubber bands 24 hours a day to help close the gaps. It was less painful than I expected it to be though. Good luck!

Mine also took 24 months (I had 4 premolars removed because of bimax protrusion) despite of the rubber bands and the power chains. I agree that the lower ones are the most difficult to fully close.
