Left Nostril feeling more blocked after premolar extraction?

#1 Post by YogiFoo »

Hi everyone, cool to be here and join this community. I have been on braces for about 10 months, preparing for jaw surgery to correct an underbite. I had one of my left upper premolars removed due to crowding in the upper jaw, prior to fitting braces. This year I have realised that my left nostril seems blocked more frequently despite not having any respiratory conditions or illness. I am wondering whether the removal of the premolar have anything to do with that, or am I thinking too much? I have read that removal of premolars may cause reduction in airways, sinking of face etc so I am not sure if there is a correlation in affecting the breathing nostrils as well.

Thanks

Certainly possible, I’m living proof of that. Since having premolar extractions my right nostril has been obstructed much more frequently, it’s more or less obstructed half of the day. Very annoying and often prevents me from falling asleep in the evening. It’s as my right nostril collapses/becomes completely blocked when my left nostril is the dominant nostril in the nasal cycle. I should add that I did have unusual complications when I removed my upper right premolar. My dentist, whom should have split the tooth in two pieces and extracted one root at a time, used too much force and damaged the bone, resulting in complete bone loss in the extraction site. As a result of this my upper jaw is now skewed.

Just in case you might want to test for allergies.

If I were you I would also bring this up with your jaw surgeon and your orthodontist.

Out of curiosity, why did you only have one premolar removed in preparation of surgery? Were you already missing a corresponding premolar?

could you please take this survey on the consequences of orthodontic premolar extractions?

thanks! It is to compile data on how many people who get this procedure are hit with bad effects.
