Eew Eew Eew!!!
I leave my retainers in a cup of water when I'm not wearing them. Sometimes the water seems to get surprisingly low, but I never really thought it was suspicious - until today. I caught my cat drinking the water out of the cup! This has probably been going on since I got them six months ago! Advice to anyone with a cat - closed containers only!

Glad you enjoyed my cat story I had been strongly warned about dogs chewing on retainers, but the cat issue never occurred to me. I read somewhere that certain cats have a taste for certain kinds of water - dog dish water, plant pot water, bathtub water, etc... I guess I have a retainer-water cat
Lucyloop has a good point about worrying more about the cat than the grody factor... if the cat drank the water while it had denture cleaner in it, that could be a bad thing.

Thats bad! This reminds me of a story thats kind of cat related but just as bad. After I got my braces I was talking to a girl that runs a machine on our Manufacturing floor. She had gotten her braces off and told me about the second day she had gotten hers on. She went home and was playing with her 2 year old on the floor. The floor was like a long fiber shag carpet. As she rolled the kid over her shoulders she ended up face down in the carpet. When she tried to get up she could only move about 1/4 inch and her braces were hung in the carpet. The more she tried to get up the worse it got. She had to wait hours for her husband to get home and cut her out of the carpet! It was so bad she had to go back to the ortho to get the ligs taken off to get all of the carpet fiber and cat hair out! Imagine that in your mouth and you cant get it out.

That's horrid. If I didn't have braces I'd probably think it was funny, but as it is I can just imagine myself in that pickle! Mind you, her husband had to have been pretty surprised when he got in and found her apparently examining the carpet with studied fascination
