Jaw surgery and relapsed
Hi Guys! I have had double jaw surgery twice and relapsed. They said I was just unlucky or it may have been tongue thrust! I have just found out I have a deviated septum and will need surgery as I am a mouth breather. Has anyone had surgery and relapsed due to tongue thrust or mouth breathing?
Re: Jaw surgery and relapsed
I underwent a septorhinoplasty years ago for a similar issue. My nose had been broken a few times due to sports etc. and I found that newly developed allergies when stationed in Northern California turned me into a mouth-breather, and a reliance on nasal inhalers in an attempt to open up my nasal passages. The surgery was performed on a same-day basis under conscious sedation and was uncomplicated, as was the recovery. The result is still working 30 years later! Best of luck to you.

That sucks that you had relapse after two surgeries. I never had surgery but it was strongly recommend to me. I chickened out and got headgear instead. My orthodontist mentioned I may have relapse but he sees that with surgery as well including a few patients that have needed multiple surgeries though not often. I understand the probability of relapse is greater if there are underlying factors such as tongue thrust. I think I may ask my ortho about a tongue crib at some point just in case.
