For those who dont celebrate Christmas.....ignor this post...
Who here has or thinks its a good idea to get a little something for the Ortho and assistants for the holidays? It cant be a bad thing right? A little red apple for the teacher so-to-speak? If you have in the past, what have you got? I f you haven't and plan to, what would you get?
I've been thinking about this and plan to send a new year flower arrangement to the office with a note of gratittude for their wonderful care these past months...no matter what I pay for everything ..I know from experience what those extra thoughtful touches can mean to a person...and there are special people in the office that I would like to recognize.

Actually, I was thinking of doing something at my first year anniversary which is next May. Really, they are great about getting me in on those little "emergencies" and such. I imagine that at the holdays they are already getting other gifts (especially from their vendors), so I think doing something at an unexpected time might be better.

I see more than that go out the window to Federal and State taxes every year, but i still get my trash men and mail lady a Christmas gift. Just makes for a nice smooth relationship, and if it means i get a little better service because of it.....thats whats its all about right? I dont think your a grinch.....LOL, i can surely understand your position. By no means do i think its something that SHOULD be done, just a nice jesture i guess. Just lookin for ideas from those that have or are planning to do it.
I don't know, lately I think the ortho should be giving me gifts for sticking with treatment...yeah, they do a good job, but I agree with nvcarissa in that $5000 for braces really enough present. Anyways, I'm feeling really sour toward the ortho right now-they don't really seem to care that I want these off....

The home-made goodies idea seems right to me. I agree that the ortho and the techs are already being paid very well to do their job. Then again, the little gift can make them even more thoughtful.
Interestingly enough, it seems in some areas it's okay to accept gifts (mail deliverers, doctors, etc.), in others, not. I'm an administrator in a university. Over the years companies have sometimes attempted to give me monetary gifts for being so helpful or taking care of business so fast, whatever. Whether or not I wanted to accept these (and it would make me feel very uncomfortable to do so even though it happened sometimes when I was just starting out and fairly poor), I am not allowed to do so.
And then there's my uncle, a general practitioner, whose patients give him absolute truckloads of wine, Harry & David baskets, flowers, crystal, etc. Really weird - HE's the rich one.
Gable, how do you get a present to the trash dudes and mail people?? Just curious. I have mental images of someone standing outside on trash day, crouched behind a bush waiting on the truck to come lol.

the mail lady is easy, just leave a letter in the box marked "mail lady" with a gift certificate or something inside. the trash guys generally get a case of beer left out at the end of the driveway with a bow on it..

While everyone at my dentist/ortho office is overly nice, I don't think they'll be getting a gift from me. I thought about a card, but haven't gotten to getting that far with my Christmas plans.
Plus the fact that I'm slightly perturbed at the moment. I just removed my stitch from having my wisdom teeth out. Myself. They forgot one (no, they don't disolve, I asked, yes, they were going to take it out, but I'd have to drive 45 minutes to get to the office.) GRRRR.... It happened when I had back surgery too. Opps. Grrr....

I feel like that's already a big enough gift.
Just FYI in general: you should never pay the entire sum up front. It is not a good idea. If your doctor's office shuts down for some reason, you will be out of luck. Yes, it has happened here and there.
