can gaps close without a powerchain?

#1 Post by secretagent437 »

well i was just wondering if gaps can close without the help of a powerchain. I have a minute gap and they took the powerchain off the top on my last visit. I asked if my gap had closed and the assistant said it did but it reopened. So that made me mad. I was just wondering. Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem....in my case my gap cannot close without a powerchain...and reopens when the powerchain is removed...i am having a debond check on Jan 11, 06 but my gap has reopened so right now i feel as if i am taking two steps back....during my treatment the only time my gap would close would be with a powerchain

I was told that some gaps just cannot be closed.
Not sure why though.

I had them on both side ; it's pretty effective but a bit painful.

Now to sound really stupid....what are closing loops? Also, I just hate hearing someone say that some gaps just can't be fixed. That's my whole reason for braces and it scares me when I hear that!

Holy smokes! I can imagine that would certainly do the trick. Thanks, Leah for the pic and explanation. :D

Yes it is possible to close up some gaps without powerchains as my ortho did just that with a substantial-sized gap that had opened up in my 2 front bottom teeth. All he did was changed the position of the two brackets on my 2 teeth and the gap closed within a couple of weeks.

I don't think that method always works as it didn't work with the big gap in my top teeth - the powerchain I'm currently wearing has fixed that though!
