Upper Removable Appliance (URA) - Am i the only one ???

Upper Removable Appliance (URA) - Am i the only one ???

Hi, i'm a 32 year old male in the UK. I have very crooked teeth top and bottom and have put off getting them corrected for years.

In December i finally plucked up the courage to go to an orthodontist and get them sorted out. I had 4 extractions and was given a URA that i have to wear for 6 months before i get my braces.

Reading around this site i dont see any mention of URAs by anyone else. Is it just me? I really want to get the braces on asap and feel frustrated by the URA. Its really hard to speak with it in as well. Still i've worn it constantly (apart from eating) since Dec 21.

What is the point of the URA? What does it do that the braces cant?
