Jiminey Christopher!!

I've been looking around this site
for a while now[well, since I've been
thinking about getting braces]I fell
in love with this site and everyone
on it!!

I just turned 16 in January and have
been thinking about braces for a long
time now. Finally I sucked it up and
went to the Ortho. I was so scared[to
say the very least]well, i dont know
many teeth terms[like Ive noticed many
of you do,Lol]but I'll try to explain this
as best I can..

okay, well you see..
my canines didnt seem to fall out when
I was younger, and so my adult teeth
grew above my baby teeth. It's not a pretty
site.. well, i have 4teeth that are
not where they are suppose to be, and
one that the Ortho said is "impacted" I
dont know what that means exactly, but
I've really been trying hard to research as
best I can about all of this stuff.. He also
said I have "Deep Bite", I just thought I had
over bite, but it seems i was wrong.

Oh gosh, I seem to be babbling. As you
get to know me; you'll see I have the
tendency to babble a bit.

Anywho, like i said, I've been attempting
to learn about braces and the different
kinds.. I asked him about "Ceramics" and
"Damon 3's" and um.. I'm not sure what else
[for being 16, i sure do have a terrible memory]
Well, he said ceramics wouldn't be a good
idea, but if I was really concerned with with
whole "metal mouth" look, the best he could
probably do was 6 clear brackets on top, and
Damon 3's on the bottom and rest of the top.

Do any of you have anything that sounds
remotely like this? I'd really like to hear
your input. Thank ya' babes 8)

Oh gosh.

i was thinking and now im kinda
scared. i have a terrible [and i
mean TERRIBLE!] gag reflex. i
cant even stand for the Doc to do
a strep test!![the sad thing is, i
even "fight" off the doctor!!]

So they wont..uh..do anything to make
me *gulp* GAG!! will they? is there
anything that can be done to help
me calm down in the orthos chair?
[goodness, i get very nervous and
i feel as if im gonna get sick to my
stomach[which i doubt my ortho
would appreciate that!! ]

Firstly its nice to see someone else young on the boards im just a little bit older than you at almost 18, and i wear full metal braces but its cool cus im always having different color ligs put on. Do you live in the UK?

As for the gag reflex im sort of similar i always end up reching when they take moulds of my mouth although im never actually sick. They put two trays in your mouth filled with a 'gunk' substnce. You bite into it for about 30 seconds and then it is removed. It makes me feel so :FeelSick: but its okay. IF you want to try and relax more while in the chair take along your mp3 player and listen to some music your ortho should be fine with this. Also another think i have regreted is not getting a copy of my before pics, take some pics of yourself with a camera and keep looking back at them when your feeling down. It will help you see why you started this journey and your progress.

Good luck with your treatment. The first few days are tough but you'll get through them.

The photos are only taken a few days appart so you wont see progress but one shows pink ligs, the other shows silver.

I go tomorrow to my orhto.. im not
sure what all he is gonna do at this
appointment, but i wont actually
GET my braces for a few more weeks.

Lol, I hope when they do the tray
things I dont get sick!! haha :P

Dark_Angel- your teeth are super
spiffy!! :)

i asked around my school with some
kids i know who have braces.. and
they all have no idea what im talking
about when i talk about "Damons, Opals,
Ceramics, etc, etc" i guess they all
just have metal.

i looooove Kathy Griffin; she is so
funny!!

I also suggest before every appointment making a list of questions you'd like to ask and take them along with you. It will mean you dont forget and your ortho will be sure to answer them in lamens terms for you.

Thanks for the comment about the teeth they are straight they just stick out which is what im trying to correct.

Im sorry ive never heard of kathy griffin.
