So how exactly does this expander work?

Ok, this is my last expander post...I swear! :oops: I was just looking at pics in the forum and noticing that everyones expander is pointed towards their teeth, while my is pointed towards the roof of my mouth.

So what exactly are they trying to expand here?? I would think that the pressure of my tounge being pressed against the expander would bring my teeth in more then push them out...but I'm obviously not an Ortho. :wink:

I'm just curious what they're trying to do here/how it works.

i'd give anything to have that expander rather than the one i have on now :cry:
1/21/06 - spacers and brackets
1/25/06 - 2 lower biscupids extracted
1/30/06 - lower archwire
2/13/06 - expander on uppers
