I cannot close my mouth!!

#1 Post by wearetheborg »

Got braced today. The molar bands are coming in the way of my bite (teeth hit molar band on opposite site). Anyone else in the same boat?
Its driving me crazy, not being able to chew properly!

My bit has been off since the day I got spacers a few weeks ago. And now it's not only off because of molar bands, but because of how my teeth are moving.
Braced on 17 Feb. 2006.

you should ask your orthodontist to put in cement lifters [look at my page to see them] to make sure your brackets/bands aren't touching/irritating your equiptment/mouth- they aren't bad, you can't close your bite down fully but you can still eat and bite on the lifters :)
Braces off- 12 months 1 week in braces- estimate 18-21 months!
First time in braces- Damon 3's- 01-30-06 - 02-09-2007 hawley clear retainer on top, permenant retainer on bottom

I've had braces for a month and 2 weeks now and I am still eating soft food because of a crossbite that doesn't allow me to completely close my bite...

Just hang in there and like it was said, maybe ask for lifters?

The craze of trying to chew food is a pain with molar bands. It will get better, mine did.
I can now rip ketchup and hot sauce packages with my front teeth.

I had that on my right side only -- now *that* was strange. Only being able to bite down on the left side. After about 3 months my bite was level again, but by that time I was already used to it.
