It sucks.
I had my second adjustment on Thursday and everything went fine, but they told me that I had to go back in a couple of weeks for a 2 hour appointment. The orthodontists didn't tell me why so I asked the receptionist and she said that I needed to get 4 more bands put in. That sucks. She said that they would be taking everything apart. That's crazy. I guess I'll live. (I'm sorry for all the complaining. I do love to nag!)
Why didn't the orthodontist tell you what s/he would be doing at your next appt.? Next time, ask your ortho if he makes a similar comment in the future. You should also ask why this needs to be done prior to your next appt.
I'm not saying what your ortho doing is wrong, s/he should have told you at your last appt. so that you know what to expect and the reason it is being done.

I agree with ssfw. Although I'm sure your orthodontist is fantastic, it's always nice to know ahead of time what's going on
