Ligatures - not on all corners of bracket?

#1 Post by cookie »

I've just noticed after my adjustment last week, that on one of my lower brackets my ortho has only hooked the ligature around 3 corners of the bracket - now I'm presuming this is for a reason and not because he's done it wrong (I hope not anyway!) but can anyone enlighten me as to why he has done this, and how it makes a difference?

I don't think there's anything you have to worry about. At my last adjustment, my ortho didn't put ligs on some of my brackets. I'm sure two orthos can't make the same mistake. Well, hopefully!

Your ortho put the lig in a way that he wants the tooth to move. Don't worry about it, he didn't forget to put it on the last corner. One of my tooth, I have a lig and wire tie on only one corner of the bracket because my tooth has to move on that side more...

Fantastic - thanks for the replies guys - makes a lot more sense now (my ortho was so busy at my last appointment I didn't get a chance to ask my usual "what are you doing" and "why" questions!)
