I had my braces put on in February of 2005. I had power chains to close the gaps from my extractions. But I now have power chains on across my upper and lowers and have had for quite some time. I think they are holding all that great progress in place?
if you don't have gaps, the power chain is usually to hold things in place. It is just so that new gaps don't open while you are getting treated. Hope this helps!
I didnt have any gaps in my upper teeth either, but I've had a powerchain on for about 4 months now. It actually caused gaps in my teeth, because it was pulling them back. I think it basically pulls your teeth into the right position, in accordance with the other teeth that the powerchain is attached to. Dont worry about it, your ortho knows what he/she is doing

Well, my arch was pretty narrow so I've been widening that using a bite plate. And I also had a canine that stuck out a little bit, like a fang tooth. So I've had a powerchain on that side to kind of pull the teeth back one by one and have room for my canine.
