Update on the happiness police

#1 Post by mominbraces »

Hello everyone,

Well last week I went for my first adjustment. Mindful
of my first experience with the happiness police, I made
sure that this time I was upbeat and full of good cheer.
I made no complaints, answered every question
with either "Good" or "No" (as in, "Are you having
any pain or other problems?"). The assistant
seems to be won over, she actually initiated
conversation with me, which was in total
contrast to our previous interactions. The
relationship with the ortho, OTOH, really does
seem to have taken a subtle but definite turn
since I made the transition from prospective to
actual patient. Before bracing he seemed pleased
to answer my questions, dispense information...now,
I have the impression that if I ask anything
it's as if I'm questioning his competence. Not
that this is going to stop me :). I guess
orthos who interact mostly with kids (and the parent
who brings them) are used to calling all the shots,
and not being talked back to. Well, the good news
is that this guy has a reputation for perfection. So
I do have alot of confidence in the treatment plan.
Thanks for listening.

I am sorry to hear that your ortho only seemed to be interested in answering your questions until you actually got them on. Like you said....maybe because he is used to calling all the shots because most of his clients are children and their parents, he thinks you are underminding him or questioning his ability. Hopefully after he realizes you have questions every time you see him that you just like to know what is going on in your mouth.

My ortho is really young. I think he is about 27 or 28 years old. I am hoping he is still early enough in his practice that he will be interested in answering my questions.

I hope things keep getting better with every visit for you.

Too bad your ortho seems that way. But good for you for not letting it bother you! That's a good attitute to have.

My ortho is a perfectionnist as well and that is good to know. At least at the end, we will know for sure that our teeth are perfect!

Let your ortho know that you've heard such great things about him. That way, he won't think you're questioning him when you're questioning him, lol!
