Both for me, Joanna. Initially I only had my first molars banded but ended up getting the second molars both upper and lower banded also.

My treatment was originally scheduled without any extractions but when my ortho put my braces on, he decided that IPR alone would not make enough room to correct my overjet. He scheduled extractions of both upper second bicuspids, and banded the second molars at my next appointment.

So far there's been no mention of headgear/TPA to prevent the first molars sliding into the extraction gaps so I'm not too sure if the banding of second molars is supposed to take care of that. I'm glad the second molars were banded though, since I have a crossbite on one upper one which is slowly coming into line .

Good luck with your treatment

Hi, I originally had no molar bands. As my four first molars (all gold crowns) popped the brackets off for the second time, I had molar bands placed around them. I also did not have my second molars banded or bracketed. But about 8 months into treatment I noticed that one of my second molars was not aligning up as it was suppose too. At that point, my orthodontist bracketed all four second molars.
Had Damon 3 / Smart Clips for almost 2 years
Now in Hawley upper 10 hours/day, permanent lower retainers

I have 10 molar bands which is quite a few taking into consideration i had 4 premolars extracted. He never said if this is a regular thing for him to use that many or if I'm just "special". I don't have any real big issues with my bite so who knows.

I have 4 up top (2 each side) & 2 on the bottom (1 each side). The upper second bands have been the bane of my braces existence since they were placed there almost 4 months ago. The rotton cleat on the tongue side still plagues me on occasion. Torture devices, those molar bands.

"Torture devices" - the exact phrase that's been in my head since I got the bands 3 days ago.

I have 2 uppers molars and 2 lower molars banded. The second molars.
