hi, had my IA put in a few days ago it hurts when i take it out but really hurts when i put it back in i was aware when i got it but wasnt expecting so much pain does anyone have any tips on how to put it in so it doenst hurt as much because it gets to the point i dont want it in also is it normal for the wire to catch on the side of your mouth and any ideas on how to stop this?

Painkillers and time and more painkillers. It'll pass by the first week and your cheek will get used to catching on the wire. In a couple of weeks you'll be hoping to have a bit of pain because it shows they're on the move

Mine got really bad on one side where I discovered a bit of wire sticking out. I covered it in orthodontal wax until I went back for a check up. My dentist then covered it with something more permanent. I also find that Bonjela helps a little.kated wrote:ok thanks for the advice

The technicians have made me 3 clear invisalign type aligners/retainers. I have the first one in now for a week. They are so comfy to wear compared to the IA. My 'naughty' tooth really aches with this, but at least I know it is working. I'm assuming that the 3rd one will be my final retainer. Although I'd be interested to know how it's going to fit when he's made my short tooth the same length as the other one. I'm guessing we'll have to make a hole in the bottom of it for the longer tooth until he has another one made for me!!

I'm finished! I had the inman fitted in May and now I have had my final final appointment. Still a bit numb as to day I had - a filling between my front two due to them being crossed for so long, but also for cosmetic reasons, my next two top teeth extended with composites, my pointy teeth filed a little and my bottom four teeth contoured to a nice shape and my wire retainer fitted to keep them lovely and straight. Plus last week I had zoom whitening which was fab.

I winced every time I removed or replaced mine the first few weeks, I hit the painkillers too but technique wise try this- take the pressure off the back by getting your nail in the gap behind your front teeth and pushing back then pull down on the side. To replace, line the side parts up with your back teeth and hold it in place with your tongue, lift the front part into place, push the back part back and lift it over your back composite (it was the clicking over the back composite that hurt me most) then click the sides into place. Good luck.

Then whitening, which I then have to allow to settle, then I can have them evened up with a mix of filing and composite.

I first discovered this thread in April when I was going to get my very own Inman Aligner. I read every post in a couple of days, and the information posted here is probably the best I've read during the entire process.
I got my aligner on the 4th of April, and got my retainer (a permanent wire) on June 20th so my treatment was very quick, and the result is absolutely amazing! (I can post some before and after pictures if you want to see, when my post count is up a few notches...) After the treatment I got my teeth whitened, and my canines were very much vampire-like so we did some fill/build-work (don't know the English term for it, I'm Swedish) on them as well.
Please feel free to ask me anything regarding the treatment, I will try to answer everything! :)

I finally had my consultation and all is fine to go ahead with the IA! I still have concerns about my rotated teeth though. When I asked I was told not to worry and that my teeth would straigten hopefully by Christmas, the dentist is not the most approachable person I've met and I didn't ask all I wanted too! I just want to know from any one who has the aligner or has finished treatment if it was effective on their rotations? Do the roated teeth take the longest to move? I don't mind if treatment is longer as long as I'm happy with my smile at the end of treatment.

The inman cannot move rotated teeth very well, at least within the specified time they tell you. Maybe if you wear it for years. What it can do is, move rotated teeth so they are in alignment and don't stick out. If they don't already stick out and are just rotated, you might not see any improvement. Moving the out-of-alignment rotated teeth will make the tooth/teeth look less rotated, but from certain angles you will still notice the rotation. I fell for all the "wonder claims" of the inman. It definitely will help with rotated teeth, but they won't un-rotate.
A lot of the pictures you see of inman results seem to involve bonding and whitening, which is not work of the inman. Bonding can make a tooth look competely different. Also, realize most pictures are taken from straight-on, making it harder to notice rotations.
See if you can get clear aligners after you are done with the inman - discuss this with your orthodontist beforehand. They help, I have one right now, but I'm probably going to need one more, and I can already tell my orthodontist gets annoyed that I notice this. The first one has been included with the initial fee. I live in the USA, where generally only children are the ones having orthodontic work, so they tend to remember an adult better. I would also say the inman is a very annoying device, I never got fully used to it.

I had my IA fitted yesterday!
It feels very bulky over the front of my top teeth and my speech is awful but hopefully it will only be for a few months.
How has everyone found their speech? My lisp is quite severe!

I'm 15 weeks with the top one and I still take it out to talk to everyone except my husband! It gets a lot less bulky as your teeth straighten up. I have one tooth left that needs a little movement.

Thank you for your reply - my children are looking at me like i'm mad when I speak. My telling off doesn't sound as impressive with a massive lisp!
