Less time in that chair and less time having to deal with the cheek retractors :)

I Haven't had to go through spacers but from all the information I've read it usually subsides in about a few days.

I had spacers for one week and hated every minute of it. Distraction is the key - keep busy to stop thinking about it. Eat soft foods and have protein shakes if the chewing gets too painful - I couldn't bit down from day 2 of the spacers. It did ease a bit after a few more days but still felt horrible.

I tried the sugar free chewing gum on the first day but because the spacers were sticking up between the teeth, the gum stuck too them so that didn't work very well at all.

Just remember they are temporary and soon you'll have a whole different beast to deal with! oh the joy of it all...

OMG!! 2 weeks - I'm dreading this part (Mine will be on for 1 week). I know that so many have said this was the very worst part of the whole thing. I hope that my orthodontist won't give me a hard time about the prescription for painkillers. Has anyone gotten a hard time about it? I have a feeling I'm going to depend on those babies.

I've only used over-the-counter stuff -- ibuprofen or tylenol. They've worked good enough to take the edge off.

Ok so the pain is slowly decreasing (got 4 Spacers around two molars on uppers on Monday 8/21) and today is the first day I haven't taken Advil every 6 hours. My question is do they always have to put spacers on the bottom arch too?? If this is the case, why wouldnt the ortho put all of them on at once? I was talking to a co worker who said she had them on top and bottom so now I'm worried I might be in for more than what I bargained for. Does it just depend on each individual situation?? I really dont want to have to deal with these darn things on my lower arch.

The first time I had spacers I had them for 2 weeks. The second time I had them I had them for 2 months. After the first week I forgot they were there. Spacers were definately the most uncomfortable part of the treatment.

Ok so I went to the ortho today to get fitted for my bands. They took the spacers out, fit my bands, then put new spacers in to leave in until my braces go on next wednesday. I have no pain at all anymore and can eat normally, wooo hoo! I was starving!! I'm not getting bottom spacers yet because I'm getting my bottom arch braced later on. Anyhow the only problem I have is that the space between one of my molars is so big that the spacer is kind of half-in on that side because it's not thick enough to fit in the big space!! Oh well, 9 more days until the braces. I am excited!!
