Good question - In the end I don't really think it matters as long as you are flossing. I Brush - Floss - Brush - Mouthwash

I rinses well a few times to get rid of food particles that can be rinsed away, then I floss, and then brush. It was recommended in my country's dentists assoc to floss first to get rid of the food in between teeth, then brush them away.

You should brush THEN floss. Think about it....if you floss first you are going to be pushing food debris and bacteria DEEPER into you gum tissues...that's no good;)

Here is my routine:

- Rinse well first
- Clean between brackets with int. brush
- Brush teeth
- Floss
- Mouthwash rinse

and then somewhere in there I use the "WARM SALTWATER RINSE!"

So Flossing is after brushing!

... floss first to get rid of the food in between teeth, then brush them away.
... and herein lies the whole ... chicken or egg first issue. My perio, hygienist and ortho ... all different practises ... said the reason to brush, then floss and then use a fluoride mouthwash, was to prevent brushing food particles being brushed in between your teeth. The mouthwash makes sure anything that was left after flossing, is washed down the sink.
This is what my dentist told me, and I've been following these directions for years.

I waterpik first to get all the big crud out.

Then I floss with my superfloss.

Then I waterpik to get all the flossed junk out.

Then I brush with my sonicare.
