Hi Chris1960

I've had my braces on for a month now and I too am feeling like I'll never get used to them. I wish I could go a day without thinking about them but it hasn't happened yet. I feel and think about the all day. How do you stop? Even when I'm busy I feel them there. I'm having a hard hard time concentrating on anything as my focus is always on my mouth. I feel like a scatterbrain.

Don't forget that in the first months you will be more sensitive because you have greater tooth movement. Just when the skin gets tough, the tooth moves a little and rubs on a new tender patch of skin.

Thanks for all your advice. I appreciate your comments. My mouth is feeling even worse this week with more irritation and even some ulcers taking shape. Not something I expected after 3 months.
But knowing that you guys have had similar problems makes me feel less like a freak. I will take your advice and hope that my mouth settles down.
My ortho has said that once he closes the gap left by my tooth extraction he will offer me the chance to bail out of treatment early if I am still in pain.
Obviously I am not keen to do that bearing in mind the time and money I have committed already but feel a little better that I have that option.
