One thing I'm worried about is this: if I get the clean and polish, then the braces, will the teeth more rapidly stain? (hence making the ceramics look pretty damn bad).

I'm pretty low on finances at the moment - I'm wondering if this clean and polish is worth it. Though my instinct is telling me it is...

There are many types of ceramic braces. Some of them are tooth-coloured while others are clear. Tooth-coloured ones may stand out more if they do not closely match your tooth shade. The clear ones will blend in with various shades of teeth, including those with tetracycline staining.

Orthodontists don't generally clean teeth. Your teeth will be polished of any plaque prior to braces being placed, but there is a lot more to a proper cleaning than just polishing the crown of the tooth.

Good luck!

Ok, slight exaggeration. They're not too bad, but years of black coffee and tea drinking haven't been too kind to their whiteness.

I would prefer to get the "teeth coloured" braces that blend in, but they might look ridiculous on me if my teeth are not as white as the braces.

I was thinking of using the crest strips beforehand, or maybe getting some kind of professional teeth whitening done, so the ceramic / teeth-coloured braces would look ok. Would that be possible?
I would just go with metal to be honest. I honestly think the clear ones looks like theres something wrong with your teeth until the person realizes your wearing braces. The metal ones don't protrude nearly as much as well and theres no issues with staining.

There is a miracle thing at home that you can use to help with your yellow teeth -- Baking powder!

Put some baking powder on top of your tooth paste, it's sure to help lesson the yellowish after some weeks.

It takes time and patient, its not a instant thing but it works. I wouldnt recommend whitening teeth unless the braces is off!

I have ceramic and I couldnt resisit curry. Always spot me with yellow bands on my braces. I use the baking powder and brush it couple of days, the yellow curry stain is gone :)

I use baking soda (not baking powder) - and so does my hygienist when I go for a cleaning. Works great.
