I'm really looking forward to month 8! I'm a month behind you and my gap is in the nearly closed with just a sliver at the gumline. I'm hoping my teeth will follow your teeth's example this month! Congrats on your progress!

My gap has been closed since my 3rd month... no it's not normal, and probably shouldn't happen like that, but my teeth went from a 2.5 mm gap to 0mm over night after having that particular power chain on for 4 weeks. MY Ortho said it was extremely rare for that to happen. But hang in there, it will close, and then after a few weeks the only time you'll remember the gap is looking at pics saying, "who is that!"
As for how much longer, I have another year at best. they are right now opening my bite, and then the process of moving my top teeth back into place where they need to be.
