I really miss raw crunchy veggies like carrots and celery. My ortho had an apple sitting in his office last visit...I thought that was cruel...I've never wanted to bite into a juicy apple more than I did at that moment!

Bread will not be your friend at first! It took me an hour to eat a sandwich.

One thing I will miss: sour wine gums by Maynards (okay, I'm 25, I know I've aged before my time, but I love wine gums!)

I have two wire coils (springs?) on my top teeth. on each side these coils are suppose to create space. I've got pics on my blog called "A journey with orthodontics: a story of a young man waiting to smile"

Here's the link if you want to read more / see pics. I will be needing Orthognathic surgery in about 18 months too!

yurs in smiles,

You and I will be getting our braces on at practically the same time, my appointment is March 2nd!

I had braces as a teenager (had them off around 7 years now) and I actually don’t remember avoiding ANY food! I know you’re supposed to but I ate anything I wanted, some things just very carefully. That might have just been the rebellious teenager in me, but it worked out okay.

I do remember avoiding strawberries and sandwiches in public because they got noticeably stuck in the braces so badly, and corn on the cob was pretty impossible to eat! But popcorn, hard candy, sticky foods, you name it, I didn’t avoid.

I miss corn on the cob :(

Everything else i still eat anyways, so long as you're careful you'd be surprised what you can still eat ;)

I eat apples, but I have to cut them up first. I don't think I could just bite into an apple.

I concour with Tumbledry eat carefully almost any thing you want, an apple or large carrot I cut first.
