All metal vs Upper ceramic and lower metal

Re: All metal vs Upper ceramic and lower metal
This was something that I really struggled with. I am 28 with some pretty moderate crowding and my ortho said that I could do clear on top but it would take an extra 6 MONTHS. He offered to do clear on top and then change them out at the way end for metal for the last bit of treatment as a "compromise".
In the end I went with metal because of the extra time and because I love coffee and Italian food waaaay too much. Everybody on here says it but you seriously won't believe it until you're in braces; no matter what you get, they are far less noticeable to the outside world than you think they are. (Does that make sense?) I walked around feeling like I had huge sign above my head saying," NERD!" but seriously nobody thought it was a big deal except for me.

I have appointment tomorrow to get x-rays, i'm leaning towards upper ceramic but i won't make a decision until i see the braces in person. If the metal looks smaller then i think they will i will probably go with that, it would be nice not having to worry about staining.

The metal will look smaller because they are, and significantly so.Tashi23 wrote:I have appointment tomorrow to get x-rays, i'm leaning towards upper ceramic but i won't make a decision until i see the braces in person. I had the same dilemma as you! In the end I decided to get ceramics as I was conscious about people being able to see them! My braces stain a little but not so anybody else, other than myself, would notice. The main things to avoid are coffee, curry and red wine!
Good luck with whichever braces you decide on!

Go for the ceramic self litigating ones so you wont have to deal with ligatures (no staining, less time adjusting, etc).

Congrats on making a decision! I've had to deal with a bit of staining when I use the clear ligs but nothing too terrible...now I have a powerchain on and it's hardly noticeable. It's grey, or light silver...I'm not sure what it's called.
I had to pay $600 extra for my six ceramic on top. Is it an extra cost for you?
Oh and here is a pic of the grayish powerchain on top

No its not an extra cost, actually its cheaper then if i picked all metal. I do not know why. I'm to afraid to ask because then they will realize they made a mistake. lol I really do think they made a mistake because it doesn't add up.
