I think the average time for braces is 18 months - so a 7 week average would mean 12 ortho visits. I've gone 20 times and just had surgey. How often do you go? I'm using an educated guess.
Clove Oil is great... well used for tooth aches but it tastes like sesame and cost effective so pharmas don't promote.
I won't go in for my first adjustment until it's been NINE AND A HALF weeks (it'll have been 5 weeks braced this coming Friday). I kind of want to see if I can go in sooner to advance treatment, but - I suppose they've scheduled it this way for a reason, hey? I just have 12's (the initial bendy memory wire) on and I want to get dees teef movin'!!
Lol, I hear you!!! The thing that keeps me motivated is seeing even the slighest change while I wait. How do you get that little ticker thing down below btw?
Make one and then you'll need to copy the code into your profile signature. I think there's a sticky on the main page with more instructions but I could be wrong.

Lady here too so I've never heard if clove oil for pain. I may have to look into it. I always assumed most ppl saw the ortho every 6 to 8 weeks.

Wow that's along time. Yeah there will be a reason why he's waiting so long. Maybe my ortho really likes me... like I have big tits and when I'm on the chair

I'm going on 8 months now, and most adjustments have been a non event. I will say that installing or changing power chains makes you feel like your teeth are going to pop out of your head, but they don't. Still, it's the power chains that really make a different when it comes to closing gaps so the "discomfort" is worth it. I usually take an ibuprofen before I go and that helps, but it's really not that bad.
I have Damon braces and with every consult they said I will go in every 10-12 weeks. After reading this thread I'm a bit concerned now. Is that too long? BTW I'm sure your power chains are coming soon enough. I got mine day 1 and I most certainly see and feel a difference. I'm now most excited for elastic because my overbite can finally be addressed.

I went in after six week for first adjustment...and they did absolutely nothing. Said I did a nice job cleaning my teeth (thanks) and have a nice day. I don't know what I expected, but didn't expect nothing. LOL~ I go back November 21, and kind of hope they actually DO something - although I shouldn't complain about it, I guess.
I don't see much changing so I guess I would like to know when I will see some improvement or some sort of changes at least. I think my front incisor has turned just a little but still really about the same. First wire (still) is very light so perhaps they are making me wait for something that will actually make some changes. I don't know what to ask, or if this is all normal.. or if there is no normal, and everyone is different.

Hi, no, but I have self-ligating brackets (Damon) so I don't have the bands on my brackets. I thought they would bump me up to a stronger arch wire, but they didn't. They talk in codes that I do not understand - something about the wire still being active. I am sure many of you have experience and get what is going on. I do wish the staff or someone would tell me what to expect. But they don't, so I just go along.

I have Damon brackets as well. From what I understand, they mean that the wire you're on hasn't finished its job - its still trying to push itself straight (the first wire is normally a 12 and is a memory wire....it'll push and move your teeth in an attempt to return to its naturally straight state). I imagine you'll get bumped up at your next appointment... This wire just needed more time to do its thing.

I've found the first few can be rough because of how painful chewing can become, but eventually they don't take as long to get over, like my last few adjustments took either no time or a day to a day and a half to get where I could chew comfortably.
Lots of crimes here
1. The upper molars bite too far ahead of the lower molars
I am back! First actual change in my wires today, to a thicker one than I started with 3 months ago (first wire) I didn't catch the size they mentioned but it's considerably thicker than the first one which was so thin it hardly showed up at all. This one does! I bet I see some real movement now, so I am excited. Perhaps I won't be in a day or two - they kept saying my teeth would hurt. So far, they really haven't....
Good thing stuffing is my favorite Thanksgiving food... sounds like turkey and other chewy things might not be too much fun. I know, I am weird. I welcome a bit of discomfort if it means my teeth are moving!
