when I had spacers on the uppers they were almost unbearable. The spacers on the lowers were fine, very little discomfort, if any.

Just came back from orthodontist's office. They put 8 spacers...2 on each quadrant on molars. It has not started to hurt (i hope it does not hurt much) but bought Advil painkiller just in case. The lady said I can eat everything except hard and sticky food, and not to floss the teeth having spacers.

She also said...I have made the right decision and going to be glad about the teeth after the braces. Braces rock!!! :)

Waiting eagerly for next Thursday to get braces. Will post the pics then.

I am Space-Giant now

Spacers a piece of cake ... so far.

I just got 8 spacers in today and prior to this experience, I was terrified! I'd heard that some people experienced more pain with the spacers than with the actual braces. If that's true, then braces are going to be a breeze!

I had an 8am appointment today and was exhausted by the time I got home. I'd read the information sheet they provided and had my Mom make me soup, bracing myself for the worst. I took a 2 hr nap at about 11am and thought that I'd feel the pain when I woke up ... but even 9 hrs later, I'm feeling fine!

The spacers ARE annoying, and if anything, my jaw is a bit tender because my bite is off. I tried to eat beef stew, but I felt like the beef was getting trapped in between my molars and I'm paranoid that the spacers are going to pop out. So I stuck to my soup! One thing I have learned from this first experience, pain and discomfort really depends on the individual. My sister had braces on in her adulthood as well, and she can't even remember what the spacers felt like. Who knows, maybe when I get my braces on, I'll have an entirely different story to tell!
