Inman aligners
Moderator: bbsadmin
Hi All
Haven't been online for a while. My update. Had my Inman replaced by clear retainers in December for the final tweaking. I am still wearing one at the moment which is barely noticable looks and speech wise. I've had to point out I am wearing it when I remove it if I have to eat etc.
I had one that didn't work at all last month so I am around 3 weeks behind with my treatment. My teeth are 99% straight just a slight adjustment needed with front two as one still looks ever so slightly out of line. I feel mad quibbling over such a minor detail which no-one else notices and is so insignificant compared to my starting point.
I had an expander for my arch as described above, no problems with it and it made the room for my two front teeth to unrotate and move from behind each other. There are some of my photos further up the string that Turpz kindly put on for me and when I get my finals from the ortho on my last appt I will post my end result as Turpz has kindly offered to host them for me.
I was due an appt yesterday but was cancelled due to snow but I hope that maybe one more clear and that will be the retainer as well.
Am debating whether to have a wire put across the back of the teeth permanently, my dentist says it depends if they move during the day when I don't have the clear retainer in so have to wait and see.
About IPR - everyone gets hung up on it - don't. It's hardly anything, just like a tiny length of the thinnest sandpaper which fits between the teeth and just 'unsticks' them so they can move. Its the sound thats the bad thing, it doesn't hurt and I'm assured will not cause any damage.
Best thing I ever did, wish I'd done it sooner!!

Hmmm... not sure this is normal but i have started to take the brace out in my sleep... this is the second time i have woke up in a panic about where the brace is.... it appears i have been taking it out and then discarding it in bed. has anyone else done this?
I'm just worried i have started to develop a habit for removing it

Hey, I have been wearing it since 20th November... What i did fail to mention earlier is that i have got Tonsillitis and a cold so maybe i did this in the night as i was really uncomfortable. I know on Friday night my throat was so bad i had to take it out as i just could not cope with wearing it and having swollen glands etc... This has only happened Sat/Sun night. Will see how i get on tonight... i did wake up in a complete panic wondering where the hell it had gone
Thanks for the reply...

Hi all,
I'm going for my full check up before getting my Inman in a couple of weeks!
Apparently it's going to take about 12 weeks or so to straighten my front two teeth up - one currently crosses over the other one.
Does anyone know how much longer the time might take if I don't wear the Inman for the full 20 hours? I am thinking I might not wear it all the time at work, so maybe 15-16 hours?
Also I have been told I will need a clear retainer for 3 months to wear day and night after the Inman treatment. Does anyone know if this is visible AT ALL? or if there is any lisp? In my job I can't have anything affecting my speech!
Fingers crossed my check up is OK and they can take the moulds there and then!

Hi Janie. I've been wearing a clear for 3 months now. It is almost invisible. You can see the top of it running across my gumline if I smile really widely and when you first get it there is sometimes a gap between the bottom of the clear and the bottom of the teeth but as your teeth move this reduces.
There is no lisping, most people don't even know I am wearing it unless I take it out to eat. I have had photos taken where you can't see it and have run training courses and had a job interview with it in without any problems.
One piece of advise I would give is if you think it isn't working or fitting right go back to your dentist. I had one which didn't seem to do anything and I left it until my next appt. Turns out it wasn't adjusted right and I had wasted a month of my time.

Hi Everyone, I have been a silent reader for about the past 3 weeks when I decided to go ahead with the IA. I just got it yesterday and am def in alot of pain. I just want to take it out, but I know that isnt the answer. Is there any advise you can give to help deal with the pain?
I also read that some of you took out your IA in your sleep. Again, last night was the first time I had mine and I actually did wake up in the middle of the night and took it out. I barley remember doing it...
I am also having a really hard time talking with this thing in my mouth please tell me it gets easier... I really cant wear it at work because of this..

Hi Jess... I think we're in the same-ish boat. I just got mine yesterday, and he's fitted a little something to it (expander?) that covers the roof of my mouth. I'm dealing with the pain which is mostly just when I take it out and put it back in (ouch!) and I think I'm lucky it's just my two front teeth that Inman's working on, any more must be really painful indeed.
My problem is the expander bit and the saliva problem. I feel like my mouth's drowning most of the time. I am slurping my way through it and I must sound and look utterly disgusting to everyone! Bit Hannibal Lecterish really...
I managed to sleep last night with it in, but that's really because I was so exhausted I basically passed out and was dead to the world. I woke up with a mouth as dry as sawdust, though. Probably because I slept with it wide open. Can't be good for your teeth that dry environment, can it?
Anyway, chin up, I'm told this awkwardness and pain starts to fade soon. Just a matter of getting used to it, I guess, and remembering the reward at the end!
Is your speech completely incomprehensible, too? No one can understand a word I say, but I think that's down to the expander. No idea how I'm going to improve my speech with this thing - it's like trying to talk while biting on a plank.

Hello guys just another quick catch up. I am now a month behind with my treatment but finally back on track after my appointment on Tuesday. My teeth are now finally straight again! My dentist thinks I will have to have the clear aligners now also as trying to pull my teeth back with the aligner didn't work (in my opinion it was cos he didnt tighten it!) I am now back to being in pain when I eat and being unable to say S's.
What do these clear aligners look like?
Jess09 and Isobelleo welcome to the forum! The aligner really does suck at first but remember why you are doing it. My mum suggested washing it in hottish water to warm it up so my mouth got used to it. Not sure if this worked but I did it every day for the first few weeks. My teeth felt numb for ages but once you get used to the pain you will want it tightened up again so that you can feel it working.
Having my teeth done is probably the best think I have ever done...

Hi Sherral! Sounds like you're nearing the finishing post... and that the results have been worth the aggravation! =)
I can feel it working, and maybe it's just the power of psychological suggestion or something silly like that, but when I took it off to have dinner tonight I did see some movement. I'm already headily anticipating the days when I -don't- have two protruding rabbit teeth anymore.
Still can't quite believe that I made the leap and am getting them sorted out. Don't know about everyone else, but it was always a vague dream with me for years. It's so strange (and wonderful!) to be finally putting it into practice.
Might seem vain to outsiders, but to me it's an investment in one of the most important things in life - laughter! I love to laugh and can't wait to be able to do it without feeling self-conscious. Roll on June 19th...!

Hi all,
Had my moulds done yesterday, going to pick up my IA in two weeks time!
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. For the time being my intention is to wear the device outside office hours and am really not looking forward to the lisp! Let's hope it starts moving my teeth soon!

Hi Everyone,
I found that I got used to the IA quite quickly. It did feel huge at first and I was very spitty but after a couple of weeks I didn't notice it at all. My teeth haven't been very sore really but have obviously moved. There was a couple of weeks where they were tender when eating but thats about it really.
My dentist hasn't mentioned wearing a clear brace afterwards-he said I will just have a retainer. The time flies and its really broken up by the three week visits.
I didn't really see any obvious movement at all for the first 6 weeks but others have so just be warned and don't panic if you don't see much movement initially. They are moving and loosening but it can take a while for it to be obvious to you.

When I first got mine I would stand for at least ten mins in the work loos looking at my teeth and see if I could see a difference. I think after the first month was when I started to notice the real difference. My older cousin just got the traditional braces and is so annoyed that I paid less and have straight teeth already.isobelleo wrote:

Definalty an investment! Most expensive thing I have ever bought apart from our apartment!
Just imagine by summer we should all have nice straight teeth bring on the holiday photos this year!
