Re: Inman aligners
Ok, so in regards to my previous post from a few hours ago... I take it all back!
I am feeling the pain and putting my aligner back in tonight after an hour off was pretty horrific! I have some issues getting the spring in position behind my teeth. I'm also finding that the big chunky clear plastic bar is.. moveable? So i'm not 100% sure where on my teeth it's supposed to be sat. When I first had it fitted by the dentist i remember thinking it was quite low down on my teeth so that's kind of what i'm sticking to.
Off to bed now. I managed to wear my aligner from 3pm (when I got it fitted) till now (11:30pm) with only an hour and a half off, and intend on having it in whilst I sleep.. so 14 and a half hours isn't too bad for my first day right!?

I remember when I first got mine, for the first week it was ok whilst in, but my teeth really ached when I took it out, then when I popped it back in it would feel very tight but soon got used to it. I always pull the chunky clear plastic bar down on my teeth, whether that is right or not, I don't know, but my teeth are doing what they are supposed to do, so I guess it must be ok. It takes a little while to get used to putting it in and getting the bar at the back in the right position, but you'll soon be doing it without thinking.
Stick with it, all will be fine, but if you are unsure about anything, contact your dentist and check, they should be available for support if required.
Re: Inman aligners
Well.. Appointment at ortho yesterday and I've been recommended to use the Inman Aligner. I have a month to decide if I'm going for it. I'll read through the 150+ pages here to help me decide. lol. I'm so worried about the 'daffy duck' speech people keep going on about. :(

Do you know if you will have to have a bite plane? My dentist believes if I didnt have that the speech wouldnt be so bad. Others who do not have a bite plane on here have said it gets better, everything I read suggested that speech should be 90% ok by around week 3.
Obviously I am just going by what I read as I have the bite plane, so I still cant talk at all lol!
Hopefully some others on here can advise you as to whether the speech gets better in time.
Re: Inman aligners
Well... went to another orthodontist for a second opinion.
She advised the Cfast system (similar to 6month smile) would work better for me. She said the Inman aligner may not fully straighten the top 4 teeth that have overcrowding. She also highlighted my worries on the speech thing and did say it would get slurred/lisped for a while and can get better but doesn't go away. basically she didn't recommend the Inman would work best for me. Is this just so they can sell me their 'higher priced' braces?
I'm not sure what to do. The price was an extra £900 ...but she did say they could also do the bottom arch for an additional £300.
I'm so confused..

Thanks Jen! I'm not having many issues with taking it out, I just pull the little metal hooks on the side and it comes out without any problems. I'm finding that i'm getting faster at putting the aligner back in. The hardest bit is popping the spring back behind my teeth- I get too scared to push it back and click it in as i'm always afraid that the force of it is going to break my tooth! Silly I know ha ha. My next aim is to be able to put it in without needing a mirror.
I wore it for 21 hours yesterday (my first full day) and 18 today so i'm happy with that. I have been taking phone calls at work. Everyone can understand me but I do sound ridiculous- i'm not talking a little lisp, i'm talking full on speech impediment/daffy duck speech!
One new concern has arisen today... Although my teeth are quite achey (like a dull ache), i'm not experiencing any pain anymore. Yesterday I had lots of pain putting my aligner back in but i'm no longer experiencing any pain. When the aligner is out, my teeth do not feel very tender or painful and so eating food today was easy (yesterday it hurt and I was using my back teeth). Why is this happening? I've read other people on this forum saying that they're experiencing something similar but not as soon as having their aligner as me, i've literally had it for 2 and a half days! Where has the pressure gone!?

Re: Inman aligners
Just wanted to add something i've forgotten to talk about so far- gagging. On Day 1 (Monday), I gagged so so bad. Whenever I tried to speak, I kept having to pause whilst I did my best not to gag before continuing to speak again. I was really concerned about this and couldn't find many instances on here of people gagging. However, when I woke up the next morning (yday morn) the gagging had 100% vanished! So just incase anyone is experiencing the same thing and reading this post- it DOES go away don't worry!

That does seem quite soon for the pain to stop, I still get an ache now and again when I take it out and I am 10-11 weeks in. but then saying that I dont remember having pain for very long, just the dull ache. I would check with the dentist if you can, just to make sure its doing its job properly, maybe its not tight enough? Or maybe your mouth has just got used to it really quickly.
You made me laugh with your comment about being scared of breaking your tooth, its not silly, I keep thinking the one being moved it going to fall out, I know it wont as loads of people said the same thing, its obviously loose because it is moving but I have a mini panic everytime I pop to the aligner out to eat thinking the tooth is going to come out too lol!
Sounds like you're doing well though, it'll be done before you realise, believe me.

Cheers,
Jen

Hi Jen! Well I'm now a week and 2 days in and I literally have no pain, tenderness, aching nor sensitivy regardless of whether my aligners are in or out. Putting them back in causes me 0% pain. I've also seen no movement so wondering whether they aren't tight enough as you say! I've got a check up on monday so no point in me kicking up a fuss until then.
My speech is a lot better but I still have a lisp which I doubt is going anywhere. I'm averaging on about 17/18 hours per day of wear. Keep you all posted

Yeah that does sound odd, but as you are going Monday anyway, you may as well wait until then, just frustrating if that is the case and you have been wearing it for two weeks for nothing. Great news about your speech, I would love to just have a lisp, I still can't speak at all, I've given up trying lol!
Have a good weekend,
Jen

Re: Inman aligners
Hi All,
I had my check up yesterday, all looking good, dentist believes I will be done in about 4 weeks
It's just getting the tooth completely in line with the rest and that'll be it, he was talking about retainers etc, so exciting!!
I now just have to be really good and stick to wearing it as often as I have been, now the tooth has moved in front of the bottom set, It's so tempting to just leave it out as I know it wont go back, but it wont get level with the others if I do that, so need to just stick with it for these last 4 weeks or so.
Looking forward to when the tooth settles in the new position and I dont have the wear the aligner or a retainer during the day, be nice to eat without my teeth hurting.
Hope everyone is well and all is going good with your treatment.
Cheers,
Jen

Re: Inman aligners
Hello, I am new here. I would like to get Inman aligner for my upper teeth. However, I already made a mistake of putting 4 veneers first, but I am not fully satisfied with results. Can I wear Inman over them? It doesn't matter if they crack, I will replace them after I finish wearing Inman aligner anyway. Thanks in advance.
Re: Inman aligners
JENWALTON01 - Not been on here for a while, great news that you are nearly done!! :-) have you decided what type of retainer to get? (Fixed wire / removable)...I'm leaning towards the fixed one so long as it doesn't affect my bite...
I'm having one of those weeks where I just want to be done with wearing the brace now...just been on holiday and all the photos of me look so rubbish with me trying to smile over the brace! My teeth have moved so much over these 7 weeks though...I'm hopeful I might be finished ahead of time! Do you feel like you've got a trout pout with yours in?!!! I do...and not in a good way!
To all who are setting out and in the first stages - I hope you are all doing well, time does go quick and you do get used to it! X

Hi RuthK - Nice to hear from you, glad you are seeing good progress, really makes a difference doesnt it, plus it makes you keep it in even when you really want to just leave it out for a while. Sorry to hear you are having one of those weeks, but I totally know where you are coming from, I think it actually gets harder to stick with it, the closer you are to the end, as the movement slows down and you just want it done!RuthK wrote:JENWALTON01 - Not been on here for a while, great news that you are nearly done!!have you decided what type of retainer to get? I always feel like I have a trout pout, my holiday snaps were also ruined when I forgot to take it out, but I just keep telling myself, I'm nearly there and all photos after this, I'll have a lovely straight smile, shame nothing can be done with the wrinkles round my eyes lol!!
I am also swaying towards the fixed wire retainer, I'm seeing my dentist next Wed, so hope to discuss in more detail then.
I'll keep you updated.

Hi AKAK - Welcome to the forum, unfortunately I have no idea if the aligner will work if you have veneers. I would suggest seeing a couple of dentists to see what they recommend.AKAK wrote:Hello, I am new here. I would like to get Inman aligner for my upper teeth.
