So it is now 8.53pm and I had my procedure this morning at 9am still not feeling any major pain so that's good to be honest I didn't know what to expect from the whole experience. I can now feel my upper lip and nose as they were really numb. Ive managed to eat an omelette and some rice pudding and have been drinking fine. They have packed it out and put stitches in place so that kinda feels weird as my tongue just wants to feel the stitches all the time. See how the next few days go and how long these stitches stay in before they start to desolve My next appointment is 6th March with my ortho to check everything over then hopefully discuss when he will activate it.

Wow our mouths looked very different! My oral surgeon didn't do it that way....and didn't have anything packed in the gums. He cut my gums, flapped them back to attach the bracket, then just stitched them all back together. I'm envious how comfortable you are after having this all done lol. I was in major pain the first day!
You are lucky! I hope you get your tooth activated at your appointment. I have to wait until the 12th as I was too swollen when I went in a couple days after surgery.

From what I have read on this forum a lot of people have had it done the way you had yours done. Still no real pain today (just slight ache in my front teeth). I'm a bit nervous of what the "area" will look like once the stiches and packing have come out
Wow, it's been such a long time since I've checked back here and it since then it looks like so many more people have been getting exposures! Just thought I'd pop in with an update on mine to give all you newbies to the procedure some encouragement...
Well, as my ticker says, I've done 17 months duty in braces. My original treatment estimate was 24 months, so I'm hoping/praying I'm finally in the homestretch. I'm sososo sick of the maintenance of braces and just want them OFF already, but I do have to say I'm grateful for the progress I've made. Take a looksie:
See that canine tooth on the left? That's my exposed canine! It's actually down and in alignment with my other teeth! When I think back to a year ago when I was just past my exposure surgery and was wondering when/if I'd ever see that tooth, it really does give me a sense of accomplishment that brace and the surgery really have done what they were supposed to do. My next orthodontist appointment is in two or three weeks, and at my last one he said I'm almost ready for rubber bands. Does that mean I'm almost done? Keeping my fingers crossed...

Hi sablequeenie, wow that's a great result and well worth the time spent! I had my exposure yesterday, my treatment is slightly different to everyone else's on here. Was your tooth exposed, anchor and chain attached then gum stitched back over?

I'm so jealous! I was definitely in pain from him essentially cutting the roof of my mouth off then sewing it back together!!
I'm am happy thought that you're feeling well. You get it activated soon, right? I'm waiting for 2.5 more weeks.

My next appointment is 6th march they haven't confirmed when they will be activating it so I guess I'll have to wait and see what he says then, and also what kind of state my mouth is in by then.
OUCH!!! I'm in sooo much pain since my adjustment yesterday!!.. but I can see movement already just overnight! :) I have had braces for one year so far and had exposure surgery done 7 months ago on my impacted upper canine (palate side).. It was quite a bit back but not too deep. I have been having adjustments / tightening it every 3 -4 weeks since the surgery. Just today I am starting to see it at my gumline!.. I also have a fake tooth in place where the gap is but have been told this will have to go when there is no more room.. How long did it take for everyone else's canine to come in from date of surgery? My ortho said I should be braces free this time next year. I only have braces on my top arch at the moment but am getting bottoms on in a couple of months - my bottom teeth are straight but aparantly I will need to get elastics to align my bite... thanks all
Hey guys long time since I been on this thread. Glad to see it some what active again. Well it's been to 2+years since I been braced up and had my exposure done. I thought I was making progress and from the x rays I saw movement. My ortho and I was pretty excited and that was Dec of last year. At this point the links that are on my bracket are all used up and I don't have any more left to help pull. So he suggested he was going to laser the gum hoping to expose the links/bracket on my next appointment, which was like 2 weeks ago. Well to make the story short I have to get my impacted tooth re exposed and re bracketed. Any one ever have this happen? How many exposure did you have? I am almost to the point of wanting to give up.
I`m very sorry to hear that things are progressing not so well for you, tkna. Hope you will be getting better news soon. Bravo on the perseverance and hold on.
Here's an update. Had my appointment with my Orthodontist this afternoon, he has put 4 spacers in the top molars ready to fit my quad helix expander on monday aaaaaaannnnnnnndddddddd.......he took my packing out of my exposed tooth area! I have attached a pic for you guys to have a look at the little fella. After 25 years I have been introduced to my adult upper right canine . Orthodontist said to brush around the area about 6 times a day to stop the gums from growing over it and he will see if there is any movement naturally before attaching anything to it to start 'pulling'. Very happy with the outcome so far, now its a waiting game.....

I'm in the club, I guess: I've got one impacted canine (upper right) and have had my braces for one month now. I'm 28 years old. I'm already over them and am struggling with my confidence so far, but I'm hopeful that my treatment won't take too long.
I inherited a lone impacted canine from my mother, whose baby tooth never fell out; her canine is still hanging out in her jaw, unaware that it is 64 years late to the party. :-) I was told to get braces at 16 due to gaps in my first 6 top teeth, but nobody mentioned impacted canines to me. I declined braces and opted to have the gaps bonded instead; my dentist didn't argue, probably since he knew what was up with my mother's teeth and figured I was probably going to have the same situation. Oh, how I wish...
Several months ago, I noticed something weird behind my baby canine. I couldn't really see anything, and didn't have any symptoms of a calcified salivary gland (which was oddly the ONLY thing I thought it could be--duh!), so I didn't think about it. A couple of months later, I realized that it had gotten bigger. I panicked and ran to a mirror and tilted my head back and, lo and behold, there was my new canine! After hitting "snooze" for over 12 years, it had decided that it was ready to show up. I was devastated, because I'd had beautiful teeth for 12 years and knew exactly what this meant: braces. But I knew I had to do something, so I bit the bullet and saw an orthodontist. I found one who agreed not to "fix" other parts of my bite, since I have a class-1 molar relationship, straight teeth, and love my smile.
Our solution was to put limited braces on my top teeth (9 brackets only) and implant a micro-screw implant to aid in pulling the canine down the rest of the way. So far I have my braces and a stabilizing wire rigged to a couple of my molars that attaches to the screw (to limit arch distortion once we start pulling, I think), but nothing attached to the new tooth. My baby tooth is still in place, and my ortho put a bracket on it in a way that will hopefully force it out over time. Since November, when I had my consultation, my permanent tooth has moved even further down, so I'm trying to be optimistic. I'm glad this forum exists--it's comforting to know that others are going through this (and worse), too; I'm looking forward to following along with all of you as we try to get our ornery teeth sorted out. Okay guys, I'm officially activated today! It didn't hurt but I'm thinking there's really not much pressure at all. I'm so happy to feel like we're finally making some progress though. My next adjustment is April 10th...hoping there's movement.

Hi Millersgirl, glad to hear your activation went well, mine isn't for another 6 weeks. I will be excited to hear about your progress
