C most applies to me because I needed them for my buck teefs! BUT I ran around and wouldn't go just because I didn't want to be bucktoothed and have big metal braces. I was able to avoid all the traps until they finally gave up. Now I'm paying out of my own pocket instead of using my parents' insurance. I will remember to drag my kids regardless of what they want, I'm sure by that time, orthodontics will have evolved into some super science.

I would say for me it was A and B. We definitely couldn't afford the total cost when I was younger, however, my father was in the military, and had full benefits for his children, but we basically didn't get to go to the dentist "just because". Oh well, I'm getting them now and while I certainly wish this was over with already, I wonder if my teeth would have reverted back by now anyway, had I been braced as a teen. Yay for cynicism!! My teeth hurt today so I guess I am allowed.
Anyway, interesting poll...

i choose F.
My case was barely visible till the age of 15-16 and however my parents wanted me to get braces, i didn`t want to go through it with that barely visible problem, i thought i could live with it. But it got worse by the age of 19-20, so, i got them at the age of 23 which i`m now. I don`t regret anything, as probably at 15-16 i was too selfconsient due to beeing a teenager. And now i will get beautiful teeth by the beautiful age of 25. Cool!!!!

I did have braces as a child, but that was a long time ago and orthodontics wasn't as advanced then as it is today. So much so that I now need at least 2 years of treatment, bottom jaw lowered, teeth extracted, damaged bone beneath my nose fixed etc etc. I wouldn't have been brave enough years ago to contemplate any of this, but so so glad I have now.

A, at first.
My father, a school teacher, probably could not have afforded them. However, my grandmother offered to pay for them. But then,
F took over.
My mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and we all spent the next decade taking care of her, working, finishing school, and otherwise living our lives.
I hesitated over the uneducated choice--which I interpreted as uneducated in regard to braces: cost, time, realities of the resullts, and so forth. I'm 52, so that perhaps the answers would have been more basic when I was a kid. But I don't know, because we had no time to become educated about braces. We just watched the Crest vs. Colgate wars on TV commercials and brushed with whichever one was on sale.
Now I'm indulging myself--after having seriously taken care of myself, by having PRK-laser surgery in one eye (eyesight too poor for Lasik) and a lens implant in the other (eyesight too poor for anything else). Braces are for the fun of the result--and the fun of participating on this list. I can understand why there's a post-braces forum!

My mother thought my bite was fine (and frankly, it wasn't too bad... I've got braces for cosmetic reasons. My teeth bothered me but other people like my husband thought they were fine.)
My mother is from an older generation and most people didn't have braces when she was young. If I had had an extreme case, I probably would have gotten them.
When I was in my teens I did go for a consultation and was told I'd need orthognathic surgery, too. I was too afraid to do that. And I didn't do it now either, though I was offered the option. I'm petrified of surgery unless I need a bullet removed or something.

Well...I'm an "F."
Our family dentist never suggested to my mom that I get braces. Back 38 years ago, people seldom questioned their medical professionals...so because he never mentioned it...I must not have needed them.
I finally had a dentist suggest braces when I was in my early 20's but at the time trying to look professional sitting behind a desk and dealing with the public...plus being self conscious...I never did anything.
So...at 47 I figured...why not. Too bad because my folks got off easy. I had to pay for these myself. Although, my mom felt guilty and did give me $500 to put toward the bill.

What a lovely gesture of your mother, sugarplum.
As for myself:
A. - I wanted them but my parents couldnt afford them
I never wanted them as a kid. Adolescence was challenging enough without throwing braces into the equation.
B. My parents were too selfish and wouldnt put out the money/ was neglected
My parents spoiled me rotten. My husband rescued me from what would otherwise have become a life as a "princess". Thanks, mate.
C. I didnt want them and refused to get them even though my family offered
My mother did briefly ask me - when I was 15 - whether I wanted braces, but didn't provide details as to why. Understandably, I rejected the idea. Which was probably what she wanted to hear.
D. I was a complicated case that nobody wanted to touch
Yes, I was. When I saw an ortho at aged 18, he showed me the door. My current ortho was reluctant to treat me without surgery.
E. My parents were uneducated about the importance and just didnt think it was a big deal
My parents were well educated. However, very few people attached any importance to braces when I was a kid.
F. Other- please explain.
Sounds like Pauline Hanson (the Australians on the board will appreciate this comment).
After decades of procrastinating, I finally decided to bury my fear, open my wallet and fix my bite.

Sort of an A
My parents intended to get me braces at age 12 but financial woes prevented that from happening. I wore a space maintainer for about 14 months in anticipation of braces but alas it never came to be until 18 years later.
Interestingly the price may parents told me they were quoted for braces back in 1989 ($4000) wasn't that much less than the $5100 I paid in 2007.

With braces - pain is gain...
Some things money can't buy.
Thank God great looking teeth aren't one of them.
