Thank you.ElectricRose wrote:Hello Bottlecap,bottlecap1990 wrote:I got my spacers a long time ago. Fortunately, they did not hurt me at all ( I got 4 spacers all on top). After that, I got my rapid palatal expander ( almost 2 months ago). I wouldn't say my condition is extremely bad but I definitely wanted braces( i think my ortho said i had a slight overbite and mild crossbite). He is trying to widen my upper arch.
I heard I am not gonna be able to eat anything but soup after braces is this true?
I am happy to know that the spacers didn't hurt your teeth at all. When I got the spaces, I had pain for at least 4-5 days when I ate anything! biting down was very painful but I got used to it. TPA also irritated by tongue and it was not fun for at least 4-5 days.
I have been eating sandwitches, soups, pasta, soft fruits, etc...just make sure you cut those up in small pieces...I had a sandwitch yesterday with a fork and knife it was fun though hehe
As I was lucky not to have any pain after braces I was able to eat noodles etc...but now I am eating almost everything (but make sure it is not hard! as I don't want my brackets to break or I don't want the archwire to come out:P my appointment is in 2 months from now on!)
Good luck to you and don't worry I am sure you will be able to enjoy food the same way you did before...I kinda miss chewing gum but I know it is not good for me as if it gets stuck the wire can come out
one of my friend's who had braces couple of years ago told me that if you follow all the instructions properly your treatment time can actually drecease she followed all the rules religiously and her treatment time ended up being around 1.5 years rather than 2 years!
I am trying to follow the rules too I hope I can get my braces off in 1.5 years as well or maybe earlier!
I will be going to my dentist soon for cleaning as that is one of the hardest thing to maintain while in braces!
wish you all the best!
take care
OMG I am finally getting braces! my dream come true :)

Newbie to forum and braces
Hi all.. I'm a newbie to the forum and to having braces. I just went yesterday for my first tightening and changing of bands. A little sore but not too terribly bad. I'm glad I found this forum. [/color]

Hello Shellycassada,
welcome to the forums! I found these fourms very very helpful when I was not sure what kind I should choose for my braces, how it will feel, what I need to do etc etc? everyone here is very friendly and helpful!
if you need any help we sure will give you our best of advice.
How is your progress going? do you see any change in your teeth?
I have been in braces for 2 weeks now and I see a little bit of change. I see my upper teeth look a bit expanded compared to before and also, my bottom teeth look straigher than before.
Hopefully in a month or so I will see noticable changes. I can now easily close my lips down without feeling too bulkly as I did initially when I got the braces
I will post new pics in a month or so.
Wish you all best of luck!
Hi ElectricRose,
No, don't have the palate expander yet....went for a consultation on Monday, and my ortho has decided to leave it until next month, as I have to present a paper at an international conference at the end of this month. He wants to ensure my speech is not affected for that. Instead, he just changed a couple of ligs, so it's all tightened up a bit!
Hope things are going well for you.
Good luck to Bottlecap1990 & Shellycassada as well - hope your journeys go well!

I have been using ACT Restore every morning and every night after I brush. I try to chew Trident gum with Xylitol for an hour or so after every meal. I have not noticed bad breath, but I do not have molar bands.
I also carry these little brushes made by DenTek. They are called Easy Brush. I try to use those after every meal too; they have these very soft bristles (they kind of look like small pipe cleaners). I also carry those Colgate Wisps. They are very handy in case you go out to eat and need a little freshening.. I am very self conscious when it comes to things getting stuck in my braces as well as having bad breath.
Hope this helps!!

I went looking for the colgate wisps but had no luck checked shoppers drug mart, walmart, etc all. I got the mouth wash though and hopefully soon I will notice a difference with continued use.
Btw, I have noticed really good changes on my front teeth and I am so happy about it. I will be posting pictures soon today.
Hope you all are well n enjoying your new pretty smile :d

Hi, I just got my braces 3 days ago. Whenever I try to floss my teeth hurt like HELL. Especially when I try to get the string in between the teeth. I sort of have to press against the teeth. Do you guys floss and brush everytime after u eat? I have been doing that and I actually just bought like a small syringe online so I hope i can use that instead of flossing.ElectricRose wrote:Thank you very much for the advice!shellycassada wrote:I have been using ACT Restore every morning and every night after I brush. ElectricRose- Next time you head into Wal-Mart look around where the dental floss and stuff are. They are kind of small packages so I can see how you would miss them, as I always have a hard time finding them especially if they are pushed toward the back.
Flossing is a different story.. I do floss but it is certainly a chore.

Just brushing and floss well and make sure you clean your tongue too.ElectricRose wrote:shellycassada wrote:

Flossing is really a pain! It takes long time and also hurts. I do it once a day before sleeping and use waterpik (water floss) everytime I eat when I am at home. At work normally I brush everytime I eat as flossing will take long time.
I personally think WaterPik is a good investment. I paid 85 dollars (tax included) and it comes with several headers which are useful.
I will go check walmart again maybe they ran out of it at that time or maybe I didn't look carefully.
Thanks a lot for the suggestions

wow can't believe it is more than a month now since I got my braces!
I can see changes in my teeth but at the same time I am losing weight on my face and feel that my teeth and lips are sticking out more
I am getting pain once in a while but nothing to major, it is just uncomfortable feeling as the teeth are constantly moving.
I am hoping to have the TPA removed in my next appointment! (sometimes in the end of September!)
I am still having difficulties with my speech cuz of the TPA but it is better than before.
