I'm using traditional braces, no expander. I can already see the difference in my arch!

I have just discussed this in the other topic. Yes, I do see facial changes with braces and I did not have any extractions. Looks like my face is becoming smaller in general (including cheek bones, lips and chin). I think this is because my teeth are better aligned and take less space. I used to have a crossbite on the molars from both sides and the upper ones were sticking out a great bit. They are now aligned in a nice and rounded arch. Those changes are subtle, allright, but they are happening nonetheless. Do I like them? It is ok, as long as I am getting a healthy bite.

In general, I think every person will have facial changes with braces to a certain degree. Teeth support or faces and their alignment will for sure have an impact on the major facial bones and soft tissues. The changes are minimal and positive most of the times, but I do think that orthodontists need to make the patients (especially those in need of extractions) aware of that.
Had full mouth metal braces for 21 months. Debonded April 2013. Now wearing clear plastic retainers every other night.

I have no formal dental or orthodontic education. Hence, all opinions expressed by me on this forum are those of an "informed consumer" and by no means intended as an expert advice.

Yes! The pic on the left was taken in June of 2011 and the pic in the right in April of 2012... I got all 4 2nd bicuspids extracted in August 2011... There's a clear difference, and I love it! :D .

I think you look very pretty with or without braces! I have noticed changes in my face too. My lips stick out more and I feel like the space all around my mouth protrudes too. I guess it's just part of the process though. I'll really appreciate my looks when this is all over!

Hang in there!

Have you already had your braces removed? Did your face, jaw line returned to the way it was before braces? Please respond.
