Like many others my parents couldn't afford braces, so I went without. I was supposed to get braces on in 2001 when I was in college (went as far as to get molds and a treatment plan), but I talked myself out of it and eventually moved out of state. I avoided all dentists until I got a job with dental insurance, and discovered that a LOT of progress had been made in those 13 years. So, why not? I'm actually happier that I got them done now than in 2001 - I have a much better orthodontist for my particular issues and am in much better financial shape.

I first wanted them when I was about 12 but my dentist basically said all that mattered was dental hygiene and having healthy teeth, which is right to a certain extent. I ended up having a slight crossfire, overcrowding, my lower midline was off a few mm's and some of my teeth were wearing down prematurely because of that crossbite. I hated smiling as well so I decide to get them last September. They said the treatment would be a total of 18 months. I'm almost done!
